Sonic 3D and blue sphere conections?

I was playing sonic mega collection the other day when I noticed something.
Track 17 on sound test is the blue sphere theme. Anyone know where it's used in the game? Or why it's there at all?

I suspect that they just ported and replaced the music and sounds from S&K.

you may be right. I found the blue sphere pickup noise, the mushroom bounce noise, and the sound of when you move one of those cranks in mushroom zone.

Actually, they did use that sound in the game if memory serves.

Wait, which are you referring to? It's been forever since I've touched 3D blast.

The "No way?" music is used in the game's crash handler (otherwise known as the secret level select screen). The chance of you stumbling across that in Mega Collection is near-zero, however.

I don't know if you're talking about the music that actually plays during the Blue Sphere special stages, though.
