okay so i wrote this on the discord about my thoughts at the time and i'll add a lil bit if i have to. okay so here's my thoughts on the latest update. i think it's overall way better than before with the new sprites (tho some like sonic i think could look better like his running looks kind of weird and his spring animation looks like his muzzle is lager than it actually is, and i think tails could have his carrying sprites more like mania were he's closing his mouth and eyes to show that sonic is something solid and bigger than him, and in general i would like some more motion and expression like have the standing sprites have some small animations and like add pushing sprites the gemma mod has those, also this is an edit and for the most part whenever i use () it usually means its edited in except for like small lil additions, these are more like additions and stuff which uh anyways back to le review) and the changes to the secret levels especially pipe towers ,tho i think pipe towers is kind of not as fun as before especially at the ending where the og had alot of moving platforms it's kinda just the same as before and like the thwomps you have to go on as sonic are way too annoying and slow for both how small they are and how slow they are going up and how fast they are going down which ig is kind of the point of them but it doesn't help, and how the first one you gotta go on doesn't go down unless you go underneath it which has killed me multiple times from being more close than i thought i was, and nearby those is this question block that i can't even jump on from being too high up which is mildly infuriating to me (after multiple playthrough (without sonic) it's okay now but it does need a bit of adjusting still, i think some areas feel kind of empty feeling). going to the new shield button i think it's pretty cool but i would like an option to have the spin button be another way of using shields since it is a bit weird for me (and it kind of breaks mods which some stuff like mods that add to the base characters like fangs ariel pop gun mod don't really work well with the new ones, tho uh that might be getting an update possibly cuz of my(?) and also i know that kinda always happens in general for a mod for a game but it i imagine it being not very good for the modders who gotta work on their mod again just to be compatible with a new version of the game that is technically isn't that overhauling as something like 2.3 were at least it doesn't really have to be updated, also i'm getting off traffic for awhile-) and i think it should be used to make tails fly as sonic as well instead of what we've had forever were you gotta get super duper close to tails to start flying while other games like mania i'm pretty sure you just need to press jump and up (same time im pretty sure) to make tails fly with sonic, and i think the star power up shouldn't be as fast when changing colors. besides some things i think the game is still perfect how it is and i would die happy knowing that fang at least finally looks good (other than the boss sprites those are still the same and should be fixed (and also like this update isn't good for modders too from what ive seen, ig related to ugly knuckles)

i think he's pretty much fine how he is but he just has to have more ways to shoot stuff and i think it be neat if he had his own levels or a changed level order tbh, i think he needs to feel more appreciated ig lol, like imagine him starting in arid canyon were you fight sonic and it has its own story

Yeah, that's kind of what I've been saying. He's really fun to play, but because his moveset is so stunted in arbitrary ways, he has an impossible time keeping up with anyone else outside of specific scenarios. Let him shoot while moving/in the air, remove all the speed cuts from his bounce, and give him multiability, and he'd be on par with the rest of the cast.
Considering how situational using the bounce for speed can be, I don't think that part would make him OP in any way. Being able to lob projectiles everywhere without having to stop could maybe be an issue, considering how good he already is against some bosses, but they could go the Reveries route and make him take multiple shots to deal actual damage to tankier enemies.
If we do see these changes, I reckon they'll probably be in 2.3, which is actually a sign that this discussion is getting off topic.

FANG has the MOST NUANCED and MECHANICALLY RICH double jump ability in the ENTIRE GAME. I will NOT STAND for this SLANDER! The pop gun could use a rework tho. Still don't want spin jump abilities added tho cause I really don't think there's anything majorly wrong with the vanilla cast's moveset

In my opinion, while the update has done wonders for the base game, it's also undoubtably wrecked a grand majority of the mods that made it endlessly fun for me in the first place.
From my what I've heard, dot 14 broke freeslots, which seems like a pretty major thing to mess up, as they're basically how you add any custom object to the game. that's just hearsay tho i dont really know what broke with 2.2.14
