Pikachu is my most downloaded mod - albeit not by the widest margin, Infinite's not too far off, but I digress. I've seen him brought up in various places multiple times, and people always seem to be the most surprised when I point out that I made it.

I'm glad so many people enjoy my mod, but I don't think it's necessarily my favorite of my catalogue. The moveset, while fun, isn't exactly my most thought-through or polished work, and the sprites are... rough, to say the least. Or fuck-ugly, to say the most; then again, every artist is their own worst critic, so maybe his look isn't so egregious to others.

Still, though, I'm not sure I'm happy with Pikachu's sprites. I've gotten way better at rendering since I made them, and with Infinite off my plate, I've got plenty of creative energy to put into other things (more on that in another thread?). As such, I've opted to do something I swore I'd never do, and make proper SRB2-style sprites for Pikachu!

These ones are still based on prerenders, as you might be able to tell. Maybe it's cheating, but eh, it's the way I prefer to get things done. Instead of just drawing faces on and putting them in like I have been, though, I'll be going through and manually polishing each one, making sure the shading and shapes make sense, the outlines are properly placed and colored, and everything is antialiased and generally fits in better. Plus, on top of a chubbier model with better shading, a few of Pikachu's more awkward animations have been redone.

It'll be done when it's done. It could be anywhere from a couple weeks to several months, depending on my energy levels and potentially how the upcoming semester of college goes. I'll try and post here as I get more done, though!
