For me, I like Modern Sonic more. He has the boost, lightspeed dash, homing attack, Modern Sonic is just so speedy. To be fair i give Shadow extra points for having a spindash but dosent have the speedy feel like modern sonic does. But shadow is easier to control than modern sonic. So, in my opinion, Modern Sonic is for people that like going fast in zone and shadow is for people that want to have an easier to control character while having lots of abilities.
