Okay, I tried using Blue Warrior's advice, and went into a netgame.

I'm not sure about my MLook and MSpeed, but anyway, I suck MORE than I used to. I have no idea when/how (as in, how to use it in a situation) to use the strafe keys, and steering is awful, just plain awful. I tried using first person (chasecam off, which I already have set to my own bind key), and it's too confusing for me to aim, especially when tossing a ring such as automatic...

Any OTHER tips? I don't feel like trying out 20 different schemes.

Only reason why I'd see steering as awful is if the speeds aren't set high enough. >>

As for strafe, just use it when you want to move in a direction but face another.

Spazzo, whether or not you can play well with that control scheme is irrelevant, the fact is that if you learned how to use a mouse, you'd be even better. The mouse is just a more powerful tool for control, with the ability to turn on a dime.

However, on the original topic, the key thing you need to get in your controls if you want to play well is the strafe keys. Even more important than a mouse, the strafe keys allow you to keep pointing at someone while moving away from their shots. The main reason WASD and the mouse works so well is that you can move in a direction that's completely different from the direction that you're firing in, which is essential for match/ctf.

I really, really wish you were right about this. I've attempted to use WASD and the mouse, with no such luck. I've never really done well in first person shooters to begin with, because of my awful aim.

I guess I'm one of the small group of players that plays decent without a mouse. For me, It just doesn't feel right to play with mouse. But thats probably because grew up with Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, and those kinda non-FPS games. SRB2 was also one the very few PC games I used to play, so it probably makes sense I'm not all that good with mouse.

That's wonderful FOR YOU, Mr. Egotastic. How does that help me in any way? It doesn't. All you're talking about is yourself.

Oh and, welcome back. (By the way, I can get well over 1000 without the mouse, but it honestly depends who I'm versing, and which mode (in this case, I'd probably get more in CTF)).

Also, one person does not a group make.

One word, huge difference.

Wow. I've seen n00bs fight, users fight, and even operators fight. Now I'm witnessing a freaking ego fight.

My god, now I've seen everything.

I'm just saying that the upper reaches of what you can do with a mouse is more than keyboard alone. An expert at a mouse will simply be better than an expert at a keyboard, because you can just do more with a mouse than you can with four arrow keys.

Spazzo, I'm saying that if you got GOOD with the mouse you'd be even better than you currently are with the keyboard. Of course if you use a control scheme you suck with, you'll do badly. The trick is to stick with it until you get good with it and it's second nature.

While I do think that I could become a good mouse-oriented player with time, i'm just really afraid to change from what I have. I have found a method of playing that I am comfortable with, and that's all that really counts here. From what I've personally experienced, I can do pretty well with my existing control scheme against a mouse player, in some cases. I just have a really strong handle with my current play style.

Hmm. Perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way. There's no reason for me to have to give up my existing control scheme for one using MOUSELOOK. I could probably create some script that binds the two seperate control schemes to a button, and change at will. That way, I get the best of both worlds, and I can switch up, depending on how I feel like playing.

Now I just need to find a control scheme that conbines the capabilites of the mouse, with my existing keyboard scheme...

I've been trying to convince Spazzo for ages to use mouse. Has never worked.

And Segmint, the bars in the Mouse menu actually go farther to the right than initially appear.I have my sensitivity set super high due to this-in fact, it might be easier to use the console for a more precise determination-I have mousesens and mlooksens set to 50, ten more than the natural right side of the bar. Obviously, YMMV.

And don't try to get used to the control scheme in netgames. Go through the single player game a bit-you'll find it's much easier to appreciate the nuances of control when you're in Aerial Garden or Techno Hill.

Actually, the right side of the bar should be 40. That's what I have my sensitivity set at.
