How do I keep my character from descending for a few tics?

I'm trying to recreate Spark's Dash from Spark the Electric Jester 3 for my character, and that means he's gotta be kept in the air for about a second while dashing in mid air. Problem is I have no idea how to combine A_Thrust and MF_NOGRAVITY in my Lua script.
