Ah, Yeah! This is happenin’!
Ladies, gentlemen, and those of unspecified gender, I present to you: the Emblem Catalog. A project started in April of 2024 to replace the old method of me just listing my emblem count on the About Me section of my MB profile. And man, this is just so much more convenient.
The collection recording has been given a massive overhaul in the time since I started. I created a Microsoft Excel sheet that allows for easy tracking.
There's also extra parts for how many Rings I've gotten in v2.1 and v2.2 in Record Attack, as well as a Type and Color key.
The following (a picture of the v2.0 section) is an example of what each section looks like.
There's also a notes section where I can add, well, notes about an addon if I have anything to say about it, which is pretty often. In addition to that, the v2.1 and v2.2 sections have the Most Rings header, and v2.2 has the Played With... header for custom characters.
All and all, this is a much better way of keeping track of everything compared to just having it in my MB profile and forgetting every once in a while what emblems I have.
If you have any questions to ask about the collection system or the emblem hunting in general, feel free to ask. No promises I'll answer all of them, though. Some questions will be already answered in a Q&A below. This post may be updated periodically to swap out the images or add more questions.
UPDATE (1/31/2025): oh my god it's been 5 months and 2 weeks since i last touched this thread, and i finally got around to updating the pictures and some of the text here, thank you Othius for reminding me I made this thread in the first place
UPDATE 2 (2/3/2025): Finally finished filling out the catalog, so now I can actually start playing the game again. Expect me to (hopefully) use this thread regularly and keep you all updated on my shenanigans.

Q: Why did you start emblem hunting in the first place?
A: In an extreme oversimplification, my autism and ADHD got the better of me.
Q: Are there any other emblem hunters besides yourself?
A: A few, mainly from the SRB2 Discord.
Q: Will you ever consider retiring from emblem hunting?
A: Not for the foreseeable future. As long as there are emblems to collect, the hobby will keep going.
Q: Are custom characters allowed for emblem hunting?
A: Yes, but only for v2.2. Probably. Maybe some random maps from earlier eras will require custom characters, who knows.
Q: Are there any custom characters you've outright banned yourself from using?
A: At the moment, only HMS123311, because he's the equivalent to an instant win button.
Q: Can I start emblem hunting just like you?
A: Of course you can! You don't have to abide by the same rules I give myself. Hell, you could use HMS123311 and I wouldn't judge you. The more hunters, the better.
Q: Have you considered emblem hunting in a netgame?
A: A few times in the past, but in more recent times, I've realized that playing single player is where emblem hunting peaks. You're free to hunt in a netgame if you wish, however. Alternatively, you could play JonBaxter's Emblem Hunt gamemode, if you're one of the 6 people (me included) that's interested in that sort of thing.
Q: Is there an emblem hunting meta of which characters are the best ones to hunt with?
A: I joke about it from time to time, but no. No meta currently exists.
Q: Are impossible emblems added to the catalog?
A: No, should there be no actual feasible way to get them. Out of bounds emblems are the worst.
Q: Have you figured out which emblems are impossible yet?
A: Not at the moment, but the numbers in the catalog are expected to fluctuate as I figure out which emblems are unobtainable.
Q: How do I get into emblem hunting?
A: Just do it. It’s like collecting video games.
Q: If I become an emblem hunter, what's stopping me from just moving all the emblems to the very start of the level?
A: ...Isn't that just more work compared to just getting them as-is?

Q: Are levels that don't have emblems still on the catalog?
A: Yes they are, as it makes it easier to keep track of them all.
Q: Do you have to manually add new levels to the catalog?
A: Yes, this is not an automated process.
Q: Will you add levels from the SRB2 Workshop or GameBanana?
A: I've been on the fence about it from time to time. If I do get around to doing it, I'll probably put them in a separate section, but a friend told me it might be too much to manually add content from 3 different websites, plus any content from web surfing and the like. So for right now, I'm sticking with the MB.
Q: Who/what inspired you to make this catalog?
A: A friend of mine in the RetroAchievements community (who will go unnamed for the sake of privacy) made a catalog for every RA page, so I decided tosteal borrow the idea, and now here we are.
Q: Will Kart and Ring Racers sections be added?
A: No, because those games do not have emblems.
Q: Will you release the catalog to the public eventually?
A: One day I’ll get around to it. I just need to figure out how to release it first.
Q: This is a waste of your time. Why are you doing this?
A: Because I'm based and emblempilled.
