No, I'm pretty new SRB2 lua and am trying to figure this out. I will make a patch that kinda reduces this issue though.
I'm also gonna add a thing that makes it that the after images only appear when you are super, have speed shoes, or have enough speed.

Added a command to change the type of the after images (so it's less laggy).

The command is "imagetype"
1 = the less laggy but less after images version
2 = the more laggy but better version

I mean, it's not a bad mod. It's interesting. Though, instead of making two separate files, you could've used a command to switch between only powerups and everything.
But, we all struggle with coding sometimes, some more than others, so it's fine either way. Just an idea, though.

This is pretty cool, I just wished it worked properly with Hyper forms for Everyone. (The after images still appear with the Super colors rather than the Hyper ones.)
