Adventure Sonic (v1.9)

Adventure Sonic (v1.9) v1.8c (v1.9 temp-banned)

Phanto continued defending Icy after the grooming was revealed and everyone saw the evidence. They even harassed the victim. Is that natural?
No, you're right it's not natural, it's sad news to hear the victim was harassed afterwards, I do hope the conflict was resolved later on but I understand your saying in this.

To go into a little more detail, staff only included what was necessary in the documents about Phanto. The true extent was significantly larger than what you saw. Phanto was obsessed with protecting Icy. He continued trying to do so months after her ban. He knew full well that Icy had groomed a minor and was dead-set on making sure she was protected from the consequences of that. Despite numerous attempts from us to get him to come to his senses, he persisted and eventually was kicked out of the community too.

I would therefore question why people would still associate with him after all this time. Why was he even allowed to work on this project in the first place?

Because he's a pretty good at making sprites? Phanto did make some pretty good mods- like Xtreme Sonic for example, as well as also helped MotdSpork with the Intro inspired paper sprite peelout animation (since it is an Open Asset to contribute towards updating and maintaining), and Max Control Sonic BEFORE he got community-wide banned from the SRB2 Message Board.

I ain't siding with anyone yet, but to put the hammer down on 1.9 over rolling sprites of all things, does that mean you are going to go over to MotdSpork next and demand he undo any contributions to maintaining an open asset mod a lot of people enjoy playing on their copies of SRB2?

This could probably be simply solved by just discrediting Phanto and leave the sprites in since SA-Sonic testers like myself have been working very hard hunting down bugs, glitches, and exploits to bring improvements and balancing to this character mod so it can be the best it can possibly be; to give the SRB2 Community the Definitive Adventure Sonic experiance- not to mention all the work myself and other testers did to narrow down bugs and glitches in GS Grindrails that not only bring in this sick mechanic from Sonic Adventure 2, but also makes loop-de-loops possible if implimented correctly in Vanilla SRB2.

Please Sir DylanDude, consider this with other Moderators and Staff so that the community can appreciate the hard work us SA-Sonic testers have put in daily to get to the 1.9 update...

P.S. - Please don't ban me or something worse, I felt like I really needed to get that off my chest T~T

It could not. Not only we believe people should still be credited for their work even if they turn out to be bad actors, that means such bad actors could still remain in the community causing potential harm to other users so long as they're not credited.

What could really solve the problem is simply replacing the offending sprites with older versions, or having someone other than a guy who's banned for covering for an abuser make them.

Not really. We've already gone over this.

So, the plan for v1.9 going forwards?
I will repost v1.9's original update post. But with it, I'll instead include the oldest v1.8c SAT ("Shining Alpha Tests" Discord server) alpha we had before SuperPhanto's spindash sprites were placed in.

This means it will be buggier and miss some of 1.9's features, but it'll be the best we got until Metalwario64 redoes his spindash sprites from scratch to prove Phanto wasn't involved this time. It will likely take a while. Both due to Wario situation, struggling to stay alive, as well as his pettier disdain for rolling sprites. So have patience with us! Spriting's no fun...I stopped for a reason after I'd spend my summer on SMSreborn, after all.
Kinda sucks that we have to roll back on some features and bugfixes, but I imagine that was necessary since you guys already released the update and needed to remove association from him ASAP.

Wait, why are you bringing up GS Grindrails? It's not at issue here. We're not blocking all addons by Shine, we just told them they couldn't include this contribution from Phanto lol

No, there is no rule saying any content from banned users is prohibited, that would create a mess.

Unrelated to the situation at hand but just out of curiosity, why are people who've been banned from the message board (normally) allowed to contribute to mods that are being released on the message board after their ban? Isn't the point of a ban to prevent them from interacting with the message board? To me it makes more sense that once someone has been banned they are no longer allowed to contribute to mods that release here.

It's an extremely messy situation, but I am thankful the mod was able to receive this update at all.
I think it was also a good call to link the documents & keep mostly neutral in the new post, but I still feel overall conflicted about the wording (specifically "interpreted as") & even baffled SuperPhanto had been able to contribute, as I'm not in the relevant channels.

It has been a long time in my mind at least since that ban, and I understand people can work for forgiveness & strive to better themselves so such incidents never happen again. But they also have to respect the boundaries placed on them, and by skirting the ban like this it shows a lack of that respect. I also know to many, this doesn't feel like a long while, so time didn't get to heal either. It's an extreme shame.

I also think it's important to let the content of a banned user remain on the site so long it itself isn't ban worthy. Others may still be using such mods, playing them, using them for reference in their own mods or building upon them, and such. It's good for archival reasons- sure, it may not be on the same level of, say, versions of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch being removed, which caused huge waves of problems in that modding space when it did happen- but it wouldn't be "right" to remove one's work when they're banned.

As for the actual mod update itself, it's very very impressive. I really do appreciate all the subtle nuances going into the code to make things feel just right, and I am thankful for the changes to the general gameplay as well as shields in particular. I also played around with the SRB2 mode, and while it took adjustment, I think it still feels great on controller & am glad to see a way to support SA Sonic in servers that focus on balance. Testers apparently hated the mode, according to one user? I understand making things highly committal will feel weird to one who's played mostly SA & other platformers, but it lines up exactly with SRB2 & the Classic Sonic trilogy's style & took only some getting used to. It's like making the jump from Castlevania: SotN's fluid buttery controls, to playing a proper Classicvania, then seeing people complaining it feels too stiff & calling it shit because they can't adjust to every action needing 100% commitment.

In any case, I hope to see things improve both on the mod's side & outside of it.

I was going to disagree with the removal but upon seeing the REASON for the dude's ban as someone who doesn't interact with the community...yeah that's not great.

I'm someone that disagrees with a lot of the bans handed out here so I don't tend to comment much on things and I don't think everyone who is banned should be disallowed from contributing ever because that just leads to content stagnation which it currently feels like is happening anyway but if you're protecting an active abuser and then harassing the victim I think you need to get the hell out and stay away.

Part of me is very afraid to type this and I apologize if I'm overstepping a line while doing this, but it's just immensely frustrating to look at this unfolding.
Phanto's offense is the kind of thing I look at and think "Yeah, it's better not to be associated". So then... Why did it happen here? I'm not in any SRB2 Discords or anything to be 100% informed but as far as I know Metalwario and Shine are community members / mod makes I look at and think "Yeah, these guys are great! They built up a whole bunch and I doubt they'd intentionally take a bad move and send everything crumbling."

All that had to be done, was not accepting material from Phanto– I'm certain anyone who was informed of what he did could make the reasonable decision to just not associate with him– who cares if metalwario64 hates doing spin sprites or not? That's neither here nor there considering there's absolutely no deadline to adhere to; the update will come when it's done, so take your time! Get somebody ELSE who doesn't have that history to do spin sprites if you needed to.

But the reality of the situation is that there was new content from him in the update and that's not allowed. Okay, all you had to do was get rid of those sprites and replace them with the older ones, then resubmit the update with all the content and hard work you guys put it. So then... Why were we led to believe the update was temp-banned or act ambiguous/disingenuous about the whole situation?

This is just a metaphor and/or hyperbole but... If you see a vial of poison while you're cooking a meal, you're obviously not gonna use it as an ingredient. And if you're caught using it and have the meal thrown out by health inspectors, why would you... Complain about that? Maybe this metaphor doesn't make sense but I'm trying to make a point and I hope I get that across well enough.

Once again I apologize if I'm stepping out of line, but I keep seeing this drag on when the answer just feels so simple. Why are people– including unrelated users who just wanna play a mod and aren't part of anything– constantly asking questions that are neither here nor there?
Please, all I ask is for things to be resolved neatly. The last thing I want to see is something like this go up in flames if it somehow snowballs even further. If more measures have to be taken so that the update comes out fine, then sure, go ahead. We've waited for a long time and we can keep waiting for longer– that's just how things are and have to be.

Guys, this SuperPhantom situation might obstruct the SAsonic character for Srb2 discussion chat. What do you think about me or someone else creating a separate post discussing this situation, not to give relevance to the banned subject, the super sad drama or leave the victims even more traumatized, but I think the conversation about this Phantom situation is already going on too long because this chat is for the mod already mentioned that has absolutely nothing to do with this drama and maybe this conversation could disturb other people who want to see discussions about the character but end up seeing a discussion about a drama from when I wasn't in this community. So in general, what do you think about creating a separate post just about this drama?

With all due respect, I don't think that's necessary. Trust me on this, people are just gonna come here anyway. This thread was pretty inactive anyway before the update (nobody had posted in a month).

Ok then, so I think It's time to go back to being an observer, so I guess bye bye

So to summarize this entire thing: Due to the fact a member who was banned for defending someone who has done something absolutely disgusting made sprites for a mod because MetalWario hates doing spin sprites cause 1.9 to be taken down and replaced by 1.8c

Sounds about right. I'm pretty sure they will have someone else do the spin sprites and 1.9 will be back up, correct?

Yeah the mod isn't banned or anything. They can resubmit 1.9 without the sprites made by SuperPhanto. I left the original 1.9 announcement post visible to Wario so he can just reuse that when he resubmits the update.

I hate the fact that people have to do the stupidest shit. Fuck Phanto, man. Why? Why do the amazing sprite artists always have to be fucking pedofests? It's legitimately insane. But, like, this shit happens, and not only do the mod creators have to go a version, but an already tired artist who poured his heart into this shit has to do MORE SPRITES. And now we have people fighting over nothing, not looking at the document, et cetera.
Fuck, man.

I feel like once people go big, and i mean massive gigantic, they start taking wrong turns, e.g. phanto, and more recently, roblox. But thats not a story for SASonic's MB page

I don't mean to sound entitled, I can wait as long as it takes for 1.9's updated re-release, but why not use the older spindash sprites in the meantime? And why word it as if 1.9 as a whole was banned when it's just the sprites that are the only offending part? That kinda makes it sound as if the mods are responsible for blocking it, when the mods' only issue is a set of assets that could presumably be reverted. If it's like a quality control thing where they don't think the old assets are good enough anymore, why not say as much, instead of making it sound like they had no choice in the matter?

I mean by the looks of it you didnt read the doc either. Phanto is a lot of things but he is not a pedo.
