Unfortunate how one of the best updates got removed for mere ASSOCIATION. I mean I understand the whole banned user contributions can be bypassed via updates but this is just sad.

I have come back to even ask, Who benefits from this update removal? What is there to gain? What would've happened if the staff didn't wipe the update off the site? And I require a more definitive answer on WHY.
I've already answered this for you in the previous page. It's not a matter of "who stands to gain" - a user who contributed to this update was banned for covering for an abuser and harassing the victim. We cannot allow such users to stick around the community because they represent danger to other members. Letting them contribute to mods is a way to keep them around.
I don't know why we're still arguing about the why given Golden Shine literally sent the whole doc in their post. If you're gonna say anything of substance, please make sure you read it first.

I've read up on the situation to the point of coming to an understanding of what's going on here in regards to the actions of Phanto and thus why Adventure Sonic's newest update is now longer available. And while I respect the actions taken to protect this community, I must disagree with this as a person who's been on the Internet for a while now.
Personal stuff about how I would really like to have Adventure Sonic v1.9 aside, I don't think it's a good idea to just completely disregard this without trying to understand both viewpoints, SRB2 Staff. Shine isn't trying to drag out drama of any sort just for the sake of it, or to gain any brownie points from the community. Neither am I trying to do anything similar, I'm just trying to understand this situation from both sides of the coin, and speaking my own opinion based on the information I have.
Also, please for the sake of being a rational person on the Internet, do not use this to then threaten me with, or fully go ahead with banning me. It's just that I don't see why an update should just be... "de-listed"... over something as small as this. Especially when we both know that Phanto is involved with things that are coming soon unrelated to Adventure Sonic. I understand that a bad person shouldn't have an avenue to further act out on bad behaviors, but we can separate art from artist.
Let us, for example, take the downright maddening behaviors of the popular hip-hop artist Kanye West into consideration when I make my argument. Those Twitter posts from back then were absolutely abhorrent, and we can both agree that they are. But people will continue to associate himself with his art (in his case, the music), because of how good they think it sounds and how much it may resonate with them. Those who like or dislike him as an artist can understand this.
All in all, I just hope that we can all put this drama aside and move on in a way that will benefit the community at large, since I assume that you do not want more people to talk about this and for there to be a massive ban wave on the platform. Again, do not use this post to rationalize any sort of banning or muting of any kind.

In addition to my previous point, I would like to add that these sorts of tense situations tend to be more nuanced than they may seem on the surface. It's always best to get everyone's perspective on a matter if they happen to be involved in these sorts of dramas so we can further understand where these people are and where they stand on it, rather than go off information that may not even be true.

So far, the viewpoints on the table are (1) the fact that SuperPhanto was banned for covering for an abuser, fully documented above, and (2) Shine's viewpoint, which is... that it doesn't matter? I'm not sure, but he didn't elaborate on it, so I'm not going to make any assumptions.
I disagree with you that this is a small matter and I'm not inclined to try to convince you of the contrary. I think the facts speak for themselves.

While this might be true, this measure doesn't concern whether art can be separated from artist or whether you think that's okay or not: it's simply so that a bad actor doesn't have an avenue to further act out on bad behaviors. The intent with such a ban is so that those bad actors are disincentivized from involving themselves with the community to the extent that we're responsible for.
I personally don't really care that people are talking about it and simply talking about a subject has never been justification for any bans, under the new administration at least. Apparently a lot of people did not know about SuperPhanto's ban reason, and if anything this has brought awareness to the situation.
You do realize that you can't just waltz into a discussion that involves the (again, documented) grooming of a minor and go "ackshually it might have not gone like that" without bringing any new information to the table, right? Because that's just bad faith.
In case you wanna start now, keep in mind that we're not at the surface of this case anymore. This is about a 21-year old pressuring a 17-year old to date her, verbally abusing and threatening self-harm against them, and a guy who is so adamant about defending that abuser that he kept pestering the victim about her and lied to staff that he didn't know anything: there is very little nuance left to go through.
We did not ban the entire update, like the thread title suggests. As I directly told Metalwario, all they had to do was remove that one set of sprites and the update could be resubmitted. Acting like we've "temp-banned" the update as the thread title now suggests, and that we forced them to revert to an old version with fewer features feels a little overdramatic.
This is made all the more dramatic by the fact that Shine and Wario clearly knew SuperPhanto was bad a long time ago. Shine and Wario were
in TAG and saw everything play out firsthand. This is not the first mod where Phanto's contributions have been at issue either. This situation could've been avoided by simply not allowing a gross person to contribute to their mod.
Invalid point; we will be witholding those too. This is not a hard decision, simply don't allow that one user to work on your mods anymore. We are being consistent with how we have always treated this.
We did. Phanto's mods are still on the Message Board, and you're allowed to use them (well, the Open Assets ones) in your mod. We don't take issue with his creations, we take issue with allowing him to contribute any further to this community. One of the most popular mods introducing SuperPhanto as a contributor sure does allow him to reach a lot of people, doesn't it? But our course of action would be the same regardless of the mod's popularity.
Kanye West is a Neo-Nazi who has repeatedly stated his hatred for Jews and his admiration of Hitler. Countless brands, artists, and platforms have now cut all ties with him because they don't want to be associated with him anymore. Are we not doing the same by blocking Phanto from contributing here?
This isn't world-changing art that's going to resonate with people we're talking about here- it's a set of Spin Dash sprites for one particular option.
I'm not sure if you've been fed some kind of narrative, but we're not banning anyone simply for disagreeing on this. The mod's still up, Shine and Wario are still here, and we have been replying to people rather than banning them. Someone got banned in the OS yesterday because they joined on an alt to stir up trouble, but everyone critical of this decision is still here.

One second, everyone is excited and v1.9 is here, the next, it's temporarily removed because of a banned person's help. I understand the situation perfectly and I hope that this can soon be resolved. Good luck on the spriting Metal!

No, anything uploaded before the ban will stay. It was nearly 2 years ago, but anything new or anything the contributed too are not allowed because the dude covered for a child abuser.

Question, how does someone's work endanger anybody in the community? I would understand if it was like entire art targeted towards a situation but this feels like a tiny overreaction to something like this? Especially since it's just, someone drawing a Sonic spindash sprite out of passion

Isn't referring to Kanye West kinda unrelated to what SuperPhanto has done? If I remember correctly Kanye West was the person who committed all the crimes, while SuperPhanto was just supporting a friend in a time of need, I know it's best to cut contact with someone but is it really fair to not try to let someone change because they were naturally defending someone they've known for a long time? I get the overall is "actions have consequences" but if everyone got the same punishment for different actions then It would end up being unfair, no?

The ban isn't because his sprites have any potential for harm. The ban is because if we allow his work on the MB, that means we're passively allowing community members to come in contact with him for further collabs and potentially stick around the community for longer, which we're not willing to risk.
That would also create even more blurred lines about whether someone's enough of a bad actor to get their contributions blacklisted, and that is just not a debate worth having.
I was replying to someone who brought up Kanye West in order to defend SuperPhanto. I don't think they're comparable people either.
Phanto continued defending Icy after the grooming was revealed and everyone saw the evidence. They even harassed the victim. Is that natural?
