Adventure Sonic (SA-Sonic) Progress

Time for an actual progress update on the dev side of things:

We haven't really posted anything regarding our progress since development actually began on this; we've made quite a bit of progress. 75% of the non-super frames are complete and 70% of his non-super gameplay is complete too. A release estimation is about 3 months(August-ish). Depends how lazy or crazy we'll get with Super Sonic and extra features.

The reasons we're not showing off GIFs at the moment are:

1: We don't want to get people thinking this'll come out in a few weeks just because we can make the gameplay look 100% done already.(We focused on the vitals first)

2: We've got a crazy debug HUD right now that literally fills most of the screen. We're getting print messages if Sonic so much as breathes.

What we have so far: The Lightdash, Lightspeed Attack, Bounce Attack, custom momentum and jumping physics, a custom-coded spindash with Adventure-style controls and improved slope physics to encourage timing your curls/uncurls, and a bunch of other little mechanics I'm sure you'll all love. Also, if you love playing with a controller, SA-Sonic's created with that as the primary control method. I myself prefer using controllers in video games, so making this Sonic feel good with one has been a goal of this project. Strafe/Standard are 100% do-able, but this is the only character that has Shine reaching for a controller.
MY GUY IS GETTING WORK DONE, I'll try to keep people off your back about begging for a beta if you or anybody else can't, Unless that counts as backseat modding, Then I'll have to step down, But THATS ALOTTA PROGRES MY GUY, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Wow keeps getting better and better, but I just want to let team know that we are gonna be happy no matter what, because he's can feel the love and care you guys have put into Sonic. And I'm always down to test, and to be fair it's about all I can do. Anyway I can wait for this amazing Sonic, because it will be nice to get a more traditional Sonic. Hugs and kisses for everyone!! Sorry that was weird.

Sounds like you got most of the stuff down already! Also a debug hud is this sonic gonna have a sa1 style menu for configurations? I hope it has a config option to change sonic's voice clips to others like sonic advance, sadx, heroes, and lost world! Can't wait to play as what will seem to be one of two of what I like to call the "Adventure Legacy Duo"!(btw if your wondering who's the second of the duo it's blur/stellar's DC-Sonic), Keep it up!

Well to be fair sonic advance looked like it took place between sa1 and sa2, and heroes in sonic generations was officially confirmed to be part of the dreamcast era, even sonic lost world in a mod for a sonic adventure level is just the adventure gameplay but modified.

None of that really makes sense. This is Adventure Sonic, meaning it’s based on Sonic’s appearance in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. The other one, Dreamcast Sonic, is based on his appearance from the Dreamcast Era, primarily SA1, SA2, and Heroes

Sorry for not showing off more! We're closely working together on both SA-Sonic and DC-Sonic, so I prefer keeping things private so we don't end up literally copying each other's homework. On the DC-side I focus mostly on features SA-Sonic won't have. That way even the same moves features will feel different, thanks to being coded by different people! ('cuz DC-Sonic's got multiple coders, whereas SA-Sonic's just me.) ....I know that's favoritism on my end since this doesn't go both ways, but people do call me the Metalwario simp.

Hell yes it will. I spend way too much time on this because I'm "playtesting" it too much. The sprites are even more gorgeous in action. Thankfully I can afford to do so! Lua-wise, Base Sonic's 90% done, and I'm dabbling into Super Sonic already. It's sprites that cost the most time.

No huge menus or fancy setups/save systems planned. We wanna keep the script relatively "simple" to not strain SRB2. We do have an option for an SA1-style jump, multiple custom colors(SA1, SA2, and Sonic Advance so far), and we'll consider a voice option for Jun'ichi Kanemaru if enough people would like that!

Since I never really have updated (and retitled) this thread, and a TON has happened in the time since it started, I feel it's time to finally update this thread to inform everyone where it currently stands.

After talking it over, I have finally decided that my Sonic will be:

Adventure Sonic

The coding is being handled by Golden Shine, and the project is focused almost exclusively on the Adventure games with a dash of Advance, and so far things have been going very smoothly. We're focusing on getting the feel of Adventure in a way that works in SRB2, while also attempting to provide it in a lightweight package.


Here are examples of the walk and the run animations I have:

Right now, the standing, walking, running, rolling, spring and falling animations are complete.

Things have come quite a way since I started out, tracing SADX screenshots and not knowing if I'd ever have a coder. I'm quite excited, and I hope others are as well!
Excellent, development is going as planned. Also I like the fact that you decided to give him a resprite

Lua-wise, I'm about 90% done on Base Sonic, and 75% done on Super Sonic. Currently messing with effects and some small control tweaks. Still careful with what I can show, but here, have some GIFs in action! (Super Sonic sprites obviously not done yet)

remembers me a quite to SA-2, i haven't finished it so i can't say anything about super sonic, i only say that super shield looks good
