Snick the Porcupine

Yello, I am new stranger and I like snick. :)

There isn't enough snick content out there wouldn't you agree?
Therefore, I figured I try my hand at adding him to SRB2. Here's a small teaser of him that I like to share. :D

It's not super unique and is using the bare minimum in terms of gameplay/modding but I think It will satisfy most including myself for now.

About half of the sprites are done (And hopefully the reset will be done next month or so) and I would be happy to answer questions.

As mentioned, very basic moves. He's basically a copy of sonic but with high thok (Basically a momentum-changing double jump), very low height, and of course dash mode.

I'm very new to this modding thing and learning as I go, like trying to get dash mode sprites to work... :<

oh ok nice, what are the dash mode sprites for? is it like that effect when getting the speed shoes?

No, it's the effect for Metal when you reach high enough speeds you basically become invincible and plow through enemies, spikes, and can even run on water.

The thing is that he has different sprites when he enters that phase and I don't know how to do that, as of now it just uses the normal running sprites which is fine but I would like to use/make sprites for that phase.

oooooh ok, well how i edit sprites is that i convert the sprites from slade into pngs then i go on a editing program (i use krita for an example), then i use the pixel brush tool and draw over the sprite, then save the png with the original file name, then go to slade and import the sprite to the one with the same name. that's kinda how i do it

Yeah, that's basically how I've been doing it. I've not used krita but I've not had issues with porting sprites so... good there.

The problem seems to come from me using a template of sonic and (essentially) drawing over all his sprites. Which works for everything but dash mode. (Since he doesn't have it normally)

Also, I don't know how/where I can find a temp for Metal's code/sprites so... I'll figure that out I guess unless you or someone else here knows.

It's probably really easy to fix, I'm just probably missing something obvious because I unfortunately have a bad case of the dumbs.

yea idk, i wish all the characters would have there own templates, i mean they could have them somewhere, it's just that i wish if so they would be easier to find them for noobs (noobs as in new and unexperienced srb2 moders)

i would be using tail sprites for my mod, because he's the closest to my character design and is also a fox, but rn it's just orange sonic with a couple custom made sprites lol

you can use this dashmode, get the peppino dashmode, it has the trail and the footsteps, and best of all: its reusable.
I've checked out that mod and it's pretty cool. Though it's also pretty easy to apply and since some people may not want the effect I won't use it in this mod.

At the very least, I'll link to it and make a small quick tutorial to apply the sounds when I do release it.

nice! can't wait for the mod to come out, would honestly be a shame if it got cancelled like a lot of other srb2 mods, this is (pretty much almost) the only snick mod for srb2 besides the gamejolt pizza tower characters pack one, which is just a freaking reskin of sonic:dramahog:

Well that's kind of what I'm also doing, granted it's tweak a bit but like I said it's not really too advance.

At the very least this will probably be done so that's good.

Maybe you can toggle the sounds with a console command.
