Why does super tails not exist in SRB2?

Because, according to Sega, he's too young and unexperienced to contain the power of the emeralds so that's why he needed the Super Emeralds to go super in Sonic 3&K.

In SRB2 it could be like in Mania, a "normal" super form without the flickies.
This thread has nothing to do with the official games. It was referring to Tails’ inability to go super in SRB2

I used this, then tried to transform as Tails with all 7 chaos emeralds and like 132 rings, I pressed Space + Shift and it didn't work
Strange it's working for everyone ! Are you sure that you used all 7 choas emeralds ?

I use SRB2 v2.2.8 not Vanilla SRB2
The author said the vanilla version and it's latest one (v2.2.8 is the vanilla)

To go super in SRB2, you don't press the jump and spin keys at the same time. Rather, you press the spin key after pressing jump, and you cannot be wearing a shield.

If it's still not working, then I'm afraid I don't know what's causing the problem.

He was OK with Super Metal Sonic because

He wasn't particularly cool with Super Metal Sonic, actually. This was something I slipped into player.dta when making several changes to both him and Amy before release, and while it was caught, nobody could conclusively come to a consensus on whether it should stay or go.

My intent was to pre-emptively sate a community that would eviscerate us if NONE of the new characters had a super form, and considered Super Mecha Sonic in Sky Sanctuary to be good prior art, but of course it simply served to fuel the existing discontent. If nothing else, we got the really well-designed Super Knuckles patch out of it!

Tails used to have a super form in the older versions due to the ringslinger emeralds making you super but since those doesn't give you the super form anymore the super forms would've been unused
Yes, but tails did not have a tail overlay back then, plus his ability was not very original and made his flight obsolete, if they were to bring it back, they would have attached it to his flight for made it combo into it

Honestly. I still go by S3&K interms who can go super but i still think SRB2 should have pulled a mania and gave everyone super regardless if they can or not.

The reward of getting emeralds is meaninglessness for Fang, Tails and Amy unless you want a slightly different ending and for completion but other than that? Nothing. :worry:

I'm wondering something, why couldn't they give Fang a faster shooting speed (or being able to shoot 3 bullets at once), Amy a bigger hammer (or more hearts being thrown) and Tails infinite flight?

Unless Tails being "easy mode" would forbid the player from getting a super form.

That pretty much clears up this discussion

Tails does not have a super form because this game is inspired off of the classics.
Then, consider Sonic Mania. Tails can turn Super normally there, and it's generally considered a Classic Sonic game.

Though, even then, Mystic thought Knuckles couldn't turn Super, even when told otherwise by Glaber, hence why it took until 2.2.5 for him to get Super.

That's so typical of Mystic. Coming up with the most ridiculous excuses for decisions instead of admitting it's just personal dislike.

I already have considered Sonic Mania. I know Sonic Mania was different. They can totally add Super Tails, and even add super forms for Amy and Fang. But Sonic Mania didn't exist when SRB2 was made. 2.1 came out like 5 years before sonic mania.

Seriously, classics mean OLD, not *came out in 2017*. Just because Sonic Mania plays like a classic and has classic levels does not make it a classic. It came out like 23 years after sonic 3 and knuckles. You wouldn't call generations a classic game though it has classic sonic in it and has levels from sonic 1 2 cd and 3&k

Understand, Classics mean "the starters" of the series, the original quintology of Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. Which were all released before the year 2000. Mania is 2017 so it is not a starter of the series or anywhere near the original games released during a certain time period (1990s if you couldnt tell)

In a literal sense you are correct, however generally when people refer to Mania as a "Classic Sonic game", they don't mean that in the sense of it being an old classic. They mean it in the sense that it falls within the "Classic Sonic" subdivision of the franchise. It's similar to how the Mega Man fanbase refers to the original Mega Man as "Mega Man Classic" and refer to Mega Man 11 as a "Mega Man Classic game". "Classic Sonic" refers to the Sonic design and gameplay style featured in the 2D platformers from the 90's.

This isn't fair to Mystic. I hate that I have to defend him but when someone is deemed odious to a community's culture it's important that people remember his character accurately, not turn him into a punching bag for every outstanding slice of beef. He was an individual who grew rotten and entrenched over time and I couldn't stand by the end of his tenure, but he was stubborn, not stupid.

He knew, objectively, that Knuckles turned Super in his debut experience. What marked his approach apart from others on this topic was that he viewed that as a thematic choice driven how focused Sonic 3&K was on exploring Super power and Emerald lore - Knuckles was Sonic's rival and could do it, Mecha Sonic was the dark mirror, etc.

Since Knuckles was not the rival of SRB2 (Metal Sonic would be a much likelier candidate), and the entire game was less plot-focused, almost like a 3D version of Sonic 2, there was no pressing need for Knuckles to be able to turn super - which was good for him too, because one of his core beliefs was that the characters should be different from one another, and he couldn't conceptualise a Super Knuckles that mechanically gelled with the changes made to him over time.

As you can see, to him, the question of "should Knuckles turn super" was not a question of following an existing power checklist. He was phenomenally disinterested in the concept, and I think it's to some degree a generational thing (he was in his mid thirties when we last talked properly). Keeping an encyclopediac running tally of a technicolour animal's special abilities is a mindset that has become vastly overrepresented in the population thanks to the rise of fan wikis, Death Battles, and nerd culture in general, and I can't say it's a completely meritless endeavour to reject this way of thinking and instead think about what any particular game needs from a design perspective.

The negatives, then, are twofold - that it's a wedge issue that will make you incredibly unpopular with people who DO hold this mindset, and that if you are chronically incapable of defending your decision without resorting to shutting down discussion or other toxic responses your game design decisions will not be respected as you'd like.

what am i even doing i've hated mystic for a long-ass time why am i defending him at 5am

That's actually probably the main quality I admired about him. He and I rarely saw eye to eye when it came to things, but he has the backbone to unapologetically stand up for his viewpoint, which remained pretty consistent. Perhaps in some cases he could take it a little far, especially in regards to when he brought his moderation powers into it, but it's otherwise something I actually liked about him. I much prefer people argue against me even if just to play devils advocate rather than just accept everything I say as gospel truth. That's not to say it's bad to agree, I just think it's healthy for ideas to be tested from time to time.

My apologies then, and thanks for correcting it. I heard this from Glaber himself a while back, so you might wanna tell him that as well.
