CONTEXT: Me and some friends were racing in a private server the other day and for some reason half of the characters (some base-game characters, some Addon characters) had their voice sounds replaced by seemingly random sounds that were loaded (EX: Shadow's voice lines were replaced by the Ring Box confirm sounds. Metal Knuckles, Mecha Sonic, and a friend's OC character had their sounds replaced by sounds from a Horn mod we were using (which we have used before and it had never done this in previous play sessions).
While I go and test to see if there is a specific Addon we had loaded that was causing this, I thought of something that might have been the cause instead.
Does Ring Racers have a Hard Limit on the number of Sounds that can be loaded? I remember reading through the forums here and finding that there is a limit on the number of characters that can be loaded (and that the base game roster takes up a chunk of that number), so when we do play, we shuffle around what Addon characters and limit ourselves to loading up to 40 to try and avoid hitting that limit. (The one time we reached that limit, the game crashed (without an error message) the moment we started the server.)
UPDATE: After some testing, me and my friends found that bug was being caused by the Horn Mod, or rather, the amount of horns loaded. We found that by toggling any one of the Horn-packs off fixed the bug. (Which seems to lean more towards the side of yes that there is a limit on how many sounds the game can have loaded at one time. Heck, one of them was loading in over 500 sound files in one pack!)
Our solution for now is to quarantine the Horn Mod and the packs for it until we trim them down to ones we actually like. That being said, I would still like to know what the Hard Limit is? I almost tried looking up what the limit was in the original DOOM, but I have a feeling Ring Racers with no Add-ons loaded is probably already over the limit the original DOOM engine has, so I doubt I would get an answer from that.
