For the other mods, I guess it has to do with some messing with the internal thingies. Like how this mod (Chaotix) has a custom title screen that might have screwed with something else. Or just overwriting something else with the base game's code that might have crashed the game while the file is loading.
So why does half of the Character Mods break in 2.2.14 while 2.2.13 did not?
no, there are others. mainly it's addons that use freeslots that seem to break like this

So, as of 2.2.15, there are two big bugs with the Chaotix:
1. Charmy's double-jump abilities (upwards dash + downward dash) are both broken. He still makes the sfx, but the ability doesn't do anything.
2. Heavy's jump+spin ability (the airborn punch thingy) is partially broken. He still dashes forward, but he enters his falling state, not bouncing off of walls or destroying enemies in his way.
(christ, this mod hasn't been updated in over a year...)
Update: Apparently it's just an issue with me combining mods? I don't know which, tho.

Well, a couple things:
1. I'm not using mobile. Never have, tbh.
2. I actually can't replicate the issue exactly. I think it has to do with combining Eggman, Surge, Trip and the Chaotix, but it's such a specific order that creates the bug, and under such seemingly specific circumstances, that I can't efficiently recreate the issue (god, that's a word sandwich).
