srb2 and srb2 message board lore and trivia and stuff by the srb2 community and neonhedgehog

There used to be a "Sort by" function when searching for members in the old forum layout if you were curious about trivia like this, I don't know if this is still possible.

Assuming no accounts earlier than this were deleted, @Smidge204 appears to be the first member. I would have assumed @SSNTails would have been first, though.
I was actually looking into this a while ago. Maybe SSN can tell us who Smidge is lol

Smidge might not actually be the first member, I think I remember hearing some of the first few user IDs got moved about when the message board switched from phpBB to vBulletin way back in August 2009, just a month after SRB2 2.0 was released. The "vBAdmin" account obviously wouldn't have existed on phpBB either.

If I want to be pedantic, there's also the fact the forums crashed in October 2003 and had to be relaunched the following month (everything before then was lost), so there's no way to know who was really the "first" member in that sense. Unless someone from then is still around and remembers something.

The only way we could find out the first true member is getting a Time machine and going back to before 2003. But we might be able to ask some older members however. Thought it was so long ago, I doubt anyone would remember.

Pretty sure there isn't a backup of the first member page, if any of the pre-crash message board.
Though there probably is some screenshots of it somewhere around the internet if any of you guys care.
It would need to be a screenshot of the members page with the join dates listed.

The 1st page of the member list seems to be archived, but we can't get to the 3rd, making it impossible to answer.

EDIT: WAIT A SECOND, this appears to be going in ascending date order by default... if this is to be trusted, a member named Epon (joined on the 24th of December, 2002) is first, followed by SSNTails (Joined the 27th of December, 2002).

EDIT 2: Here's a picture of a part of the member list, showing what I'm getting this from.

Epon is what owned Sepwich, the base domain of the MB at the time, during this time, meaning that SSNTails is the first legitimate member. Which sorta implies that this is the true creation date of the MB? Not sure.

Oh, but still it atleast confirms it

Yea, considering how this DOES seem to be on the same site, it confirms a creation date, a first member, and opens up some questions. I guess Christmas Eve is also the anniversary of the pre-crash MB's creation?

Someone rename this thread to "SRB2 MB Lore" because we just got some SRB2MB lore, all right!

I recently made a backup of what was on the Wayback Machine...
Here's what was left of the pre-crash MB:
  • folder_big.png
  • iron_latest_reply.png
  • faq.php (May 2003)
  • index.php (May 2003)
  • search.php (May 2003)
  • viewtopic.php (May 2003)
  • index.php (September 2003)
  • memberlist.php (May 2003)

Literally only seven files survived.

The true irony is the fact that the archives from December 2003 contain 200 files at most.

EDIT: For some reason my archives didn't contain memberlist.php. Fixed that one.
