Suggestions

I remember being owned to it pretty hard when I was a child playing Super Mario Kart. Obviously Nimbus Ruins is slightly more difficult in places but the basic idea is the same. Instead of Lakitu to steal two coins for your failure, you lose your stuff and respawn =P

Nimbus ruins doesn't have a remake with memorable music that everyone remixes.

I've dropped that request and now request a sort of Nimbus Ruins for Match mode.

Also, on an unrelated note, Rainbow Road 64 has better music then Super Rainbow Road. (Had to specify the system some how, they all use the same exact name.)

The problem with doing such a map design in match is that dying actually makes you lose points. In CTF, being thrown into the pit isn't detrimental to your goal. You lose all your stuff and respawn right at the base. In match, you lose your progress every time you're thrown in. This doesn't mean I don't want to have a match map with pits, but it does mean that I don't want a match map entirely over a pit. It wouldn't be any fun except for the best players.

This is how I feel about Nimbus Ruins, even though I do my best on that map when compared to the other maps.

Falling into a pit in CTF doesn't destroy your goal, though. I have on a few occasions jumped to get into a position to shoot a flag carrier off the edge ignoring whether or not I will hit the ground after the shot, frequently leading to my death. If the flag carrier goes down with me, though, then this is actually beneficial to the goal. I'd RATHER live through the shot, but preventing the other team from scoring is more important.

Your team doesn't lose points when you fall into a pit. The only thing that matters in CTF is flag captures.

This discussion is making me think that a night time version or more aura like sky would be cooler. But that's just weird. I don't like Nimbus Ruins, but it's still a good idea that nobody should use. Although, it would be better if there were some stairs between some blocks instead of constant jumping.

Only Mario Kart 64's, as I recall. Most of the others, especially Mario Kart Wii's, are pretty much the hardest tracks in the games with few exceptions.
Hardest track doesn't mean much in Mario Kart. :/

You do have to watch out for the few threats they have, but it's not as if you're going to make mistakes and get hurt often. For example, Metropolis zone is hard in that even if you're very aware of your surroundings, you can still get owned. In Mario Kart, you can only get owned by Red/Blue shells if you know what's happening around you.

Some sort of decorative sprites of insects, like flies, or dragonflies or Butterflies. They could fly around the level at random, of course in a height and radius range defined by whoever added them. Or maybe make them part of the roster of animals you save when you bop a badnik?

The return of Christmas mode!

From a topic complaining about the now removed mode:
The Christmas mode isn't annoying. I've stated this before. WHY do you insist it is? 10 days out of 365/366. Not that many when you think about it. If you don't want Christmas mode, just run the command line. Don't ask for a perfectly good addition to be shortened.

Probably scrapped from the release since they didn't have the time to find/create more Christmas textures and music. :p

Anyway, relative to what Arf was saying, fish.

The return of Christmas mode!
Much better idea: Make a mod to do it. That way only the people who WANT to play such a thing have to, and the rest of us can play normally.

Christmas mode, along with the Easter Egg hunt, were system clock time based, and as such had a lot of issues. They were both removed from SRB2. The only remaining date-based thing in SRB2 is the AFD intro, which doesn't do anything to the gameplay.

Christmas mode in particular was subject to a lot of hatred in the SRB2 community, mostly due to the wonderous ability of it to manifest itself at horrible times and cause bugs everywhere. The nature of SRB2's netplay is that it expects everyone to have the same files loaded and the same content visible, but XMas mode was an exception to that. Even worse, XMas mode put precipitation into every map, causing massively inconsistent load times between players. XMas mode has been particularly notorious in the past for causing consistency failures because some players would have their system time set to the date range for it and some people wouldn't.

The bottom line is that such a concept, while cute, just isn't a good idea in a multiplayer game. If you want to play a mode with Christmas music, textures, and themes, make one and addfile it for the same effect. We're not going to force people to use such a thing, though.

That's still generates the issue of loading external WAD files by parameters other than the proper addfile command. It's simply better to deal with it via a normal external WAD.

Also, I refuse to put that much extra music into the data file. It would increase the filesize of 2.0 by like, 50 MB, and for music I hate ^_~

SpiritCrusher, that's exactly what I'm suggesting. The people who want an XMas mod can make their own and put it up for download. It wouldn't even be hard to make one, all you need to do is get a bunch of Christmas music and replace all the textures you want to mess with, then change the SOC so it's snowing in every level and you're done.

All I'm saying is that we're not going to spend time doing it ourselves. If you want such a thing it would be trivially easy to make.

Can't the same be said about Nimbus Ruins then?

Yes, just replace blue and red shells by Rail, Scatter and Bomb.

I've gotten point-blank scatter hits in NRZ. It is immensely satisfying to launch someone clear halfway across the map and then into a pit.
