Shiny Scatterbug bot player racing with Shiny Koraidon netgame player

It's been pretty long since I last updated this pack, but now I'm back starting with an update that heavily improves and focuses on the single lua script of this pack! There are some other stuff I want to add to this pack but not right now, maybe in the next update though.

In this update, any bots that join using the characters in this pack will now have a 1 in 10 chance of becoming shiny for the rest of the game until the time they are eliminated. Many thanks to dotkwa for helping out on giving me some script samples that made this update possible!

Not only this works for Grand Prix, but bots can also become shiny during Match Races and even Netgames! However, this still does not function on the followers in the pack.

Please note that the netgames side is a bit buggy and shiny bots may not sync with other cilents meaning they might not see them! (I've literally been playtesting numerous times with me as the host and also me as a cilent in netgames). Bot players are also not saved in replays aside from the rankings there.

Bots can have a chance of being shiny if the newly added ssp_shinies toggle is turned On which is already enabled by default, but can always be turned Off if you want to play against the characters like normal. Turning the toggle off will automatically revert all shinies back to normal upon the next match.

OTHER CHANGES:

- Spinarak and Yanma no longer use external addon rivals, with their third rival slots being replaced with Black Kyurem and Garchomp respectively.

- Speaking of rivals, Black Kyurem's second rival slot (Yanma) was replaced with Tatsugiri, as well as his shiny color being replaced from Jawz to Periwinkle.

- Fixed a missing pixel that Spinarak's A4 sprites apparently had for over a year. And no I haven't planned on respriting Spinarak here yet.

- The shiny sparkles now sync with the player's movements, usually for duel mode, time attack, or prison break. The shiny sparkles also no longer appear when a shiny player respawns.

GARCHOMP V3.gif
KORAIDON V3.gif
PALKIA V2.gif

It's been a while but the long awaited String Spit Pack v4 is finally out! This update mainly resprites three of the newcomers Garchomp, Koraidon, and Palkia whose designs I was dissatisfied with in the pack, giving them even more high quality looks!

"Wait, where's Miraidon?" Well unfortunately I decided to remove Miraidon from the pack since a majority of his design has shades of grey (not counting recolorable parts) in which I can't do well on, plus his design was a "tall but too thin" type (similar to the reason why I removed Zoroark all the way back in String Spit Pack v2.2)

NEW FEATURE

I decided to give a try on lua scripting and came up with a shiny color system. Amongst all 100 base game colors, there is 1 color that is determined as a "shiny color" in which plays a shiny animation at the start of the every round. Each character in pack as their determined shiny color in which you'll have to pick in the player setup, a full list of shiny colors will be on the overview section! This does not work on followers, only the drivers. The shiny animation is purely cosmetic and shouldn't really affect gameplay.

Do note I'm very inexperienced on Lua so expect some problems when trying it out yourself (such as the shiny animation only playing directly where you spawned at and not in your exact location). But you are free to help give advice for me to improve the script in a future update!

Bots cannot be shiny (for now), only players can.

RIVAL CHANGES

And of course, new update means new GP rivals. Here are the characters that got their rival sets changed. I only had three changed and that's about it...

- Added a follower version of Yanma.
- Removed the follower versions of Sunkern and Scatterbug
- Updated Yanma's GP results icon

That should be all, I hope this update was worth it!

String Spit Pack v3.5 Patch Notes.png

This update adds in an all-new resprite of Black Kyurem, now bigger than before thanks to Guli's big kart template for making it possible! Though his signposts and death sprite remain the same (for now)

OTHER CHANGES:
There really wasn't a lot of things changed in the update. I wanted add a lot of more things for a major update but spending weeks on respriting Black Kyurem then many hours of aligning all the sprites afterwards with the big template really burnt me out, so a regular update it is! I did make a couple changes with some of the other characters though:

- Scatterbug now has a follower form, using her in-game cry as her horn just like the other followers do.

- Added more animations for the Spinarak follower including a new Hitconfirm, Win, and Lose animations. All taken from his vanilla SRB2 addon which was released recently!

- Redesigned Garchomp's finish signpost, as well as softening his attack voices.

I am aware that this is the wrong Spinarak revision.

Pokémon has reached it's 30th Anniversary, and after almost a month of this update's delay, v3.4 finally releases with a lot of quality changes and a few new additions to the pack! Let's go over to the changelog below!

Every character has been updated, with a majority of them being pretty small changes while some got bigger changes. Also, I'm changing up the lore of several of these Pokémon specifically the ones in this pack!

NEWCOMER
hisuian samurott preview.gif
hisuian samurott win.png

Hisuian Samurott joins in the roster this update! He will use the exact same sounds as Unovan Samurott. Unlike Unovan Samurott, Hisuian Samurott's armor is recolored instead of his body.

Oh yeah, Both of the Samurotts are rivals with each other. Hisuian Samurott uses light-weight stats which is opposite of Unovan Samurott's stats.

A bit of lore: He was somehow brought back from the distant past to the present time and now works for Kyurem, together they are the only true members of a pure evil organization known as "Team Glaciate". He was sent out to try and stop Spinarak from ceasing Kyurem's ultimate goal of taking over Unova.

RESPRITE
sunkern preview.gif

Amongst all the characters, Sunkern has received a major update in where she has finally been given all new sprites after almost 2 years being introduced into the pack (July 29th, 2024) while almost being considered removed from a previous update! A design from 2024 cannot be maintained, so I decided to resprite her.

A follower form of Sunkern has also been added in as well!

OTHER CHANGES

- Attempted to align rotation sprites for Tatsugiri, Samurott, Koraidon, and Garchomp
- Miraidon's eyes have been redesigned and added a bit of shine to his body as well.
- Accidentally forgot to color remap Yanma's legs last release.
- Softened the rest of Samurott's sounds.
- Updated Salamence's open jaw to make him look less uncanny.
- Fixed missing pixels for Samurott's lookback sprites.
- Removed stray pixels from Koraidon's lookback sprites.
- Gave Black Kyurem a larger minimap icon
- Altered rival sets

- Changed both Tatsugiri's signpost and "working designs" signpost. Mega Tatsugiri also got a new "working designs" signpost almost similar with regular Tatsugiri's

- Palkia's headpiece has been recolored and his gloat has been changed to his old cry. Sorry to those who liked the old gloat, but I didn't have a fond of it anymore.

- Black Kyurem's gloat has also been changed to his actual cry instead of the two fused Pokémon separated. I actually wanted to change his sounds to the ones from the movie, but I struggled on trying to find fitting voicelines for him and eventually gave up when they didn't seem fitting for him. And yes, this is the whole reason why this update was delayed for so long as it was originally supposed to release after Sunkern's resprite, but instead the update got a lot more changes to it.

- Because of the lore changes, Spinarak and Ariados are now entirely separate characters and are no longer the same specimen but from alternate timelines. Araidos' rival set has been completely changed because of this!

spinarakrb2.gif

This patch gives an update to Spinarak's sprites, as well as replacing the Spinarak follower with the Spinarak that appears in my upcoming first vanilla SRB2 addon, which has more animations than ever!

As you can notice: Spinarak no longer has a pixel of shine on his legs, and his lookback sprites have changed a lot. Finally, Spinarak no longer looks like he's on a chokehold in his front sprites.

I've also added in shade to all of the character icons that lacked them, and some very few updates on other character sprites as well.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
From this update and forward, Individual character file downloads are no longer available for this pack. Meaning that only the full pack is downloadable.

Why you may ask?

Maintaining two exact copies of the same character with one being in a full pack and one being all by themselves in a wad file was a lot of tedious work, especially when I have to do a quick hotfix on any characters even over the smallest problems! With the individuals being removed, it will be much easier to maintain the characters in just one pack and higher quality updates should happen more often now for this pack!

I started to regret adding individual downloads a few months ago before this update dropped since having to maintain 2 copies was pointless to me anyways, so I decided to remove them.

I also want all of my characters to have an equal usage rate with each other, it makes it where every character in the pack has a chance of being used by a player when the pack is being used on a server and it guarantees that all characters in the pack will be present (not that many people use this pack in netgames anyways).

However, I may accept DM requests on Discord for an individual file for the current version of a specific character, but only up to two per person! You may also download the individual files from previous versions but be aware that all of them are outdated as I write this!

This update adds in Black Kyurem into the pack, alongside with a lot of changes to the pack as well.

CHANGES:
- Spinarak and Tatsugiri now have 6 custom dialog icons! In which I may use in some of my custom maps as well.
-- Spinarak already had a single dialog icon used only in Stapler Maps' Route Gate zone.
-- I also gave Black Kyurem 3 custom dialog icons to start off with, which may also be used later.

- Due to very high usage of Class I stats, both Salamence and Garchomp have been moved over to Class F. Find their new stats in the overview page!
-
DAIKMMAP.png
Samurott now has a new minimap icon (since he literally kept his old minimap icon for 2 years).
- Speaking of minimap icons, also applied offsets to Koraidon, Miraidon, and Palkia's minimap icons.
- Updated Spinarak's map icon to accurately match the shade of color he's using.
- Softened Samurott's slow.ogg
- Rival sets updated for Samurott and Ariados.
- Removed the unused Mega Salamence and Mega Garchomp sprites in which I decided to fully cancel the idea of having, mostly to save up space for the pack.
- Removed the SF_HIRES flag from Mega Tatsugiri to resolve an error that appears when loading in the mod
This is just a very small update I wanted to do for this pack before the new years come. Do note that this may last as the latest update for a short time as I have another planned sometime next year.

- Fixed coloration on Spinarak's turn sprites (this was there for a while actually, but I wasn't bothered to fix it until now)

- Samurott now has no visible mouth on his neutral sprites (did this since his default color hides his mouth anyways)

- Palkia has a new lose.ogg sound

- Ariados now has a completely different rival set (unlike Spinarak, I don't use Ariados all the time)

- Gave Mega Tatsugiri's individual wad the proper file extension instead of a blank one.
ringracers6658.png

This update adds in Mega Tatsugiri into the pack. Being the first ever kartless character I've made in any of my Ring Racers packs. He shares the exact same stats as his base form.

Ever since Mega Tatsugiri was leaked, I promised myself that I will sprite it into Ring Racers the moment it's revealed regardless of the design and this was the result.

Mega Tatsugiri has custom kart gibs and husk thanks to the v2.4 patch adding in more vanilla lumps for sprites without the usage of lua!

"What about the mega sprites for Salamence/Garchomp?" I decided to abandon the idea of mega evolutions being in the same skin as the base form with the usage of lua (due to lack of knowledge on it). Therefore, those 2 megas will remain unused until further notice.

Also I updated Palkia's minimap icon.

You've seen Spinarak and Tatsugiri on their karts before but have you seen them off their karts? Well now you have with the new update adding in follower forms of both Spinarak and Tatsugiri!

Find them in the newly added "StringSpit" follower category and choose one of the two to race alongside you! Spinarak hops in place while Tatsugiri floats.

Followers are only available in the full pack! I do plan to add more followers of other drivers in the future.

OTHER CHANGES:
- Changed Spinarak and Koraidon's alt sign posts
- Added MODINFO to the full pack and all individual files
- Fixed Mega Salamence's sprites (STILL UNUSED FOR NOW)
ringracers1891.png

This major update adds in resprites of the remaining returners from my SRB2Kart addon that didn't get the needed resprites in a year. These resprites are higher quality and way more appealing.

While Spinarak and Salamence already had their resprites months ago in separate updates, This update finally adds in resprites of all Tatsugiri, Scatterbug, Yanma, and Samurott.

Amongst the newly resprited characters, Tatsugiri and Scatterbug have new sounds that replace some of the old ones. Scatterbug, Yanma, and Samurott all have a new default color.

Didn't plan on respriting any of the newcomers though, but I did change Ariados' default color to Ketchup. Also added in Spinarak's talk sprite from Stapler Maps.
