What's the reason that OpenGL is officially unsupported by SRB2 and no further development is being done on it? Software mode is rather limited:
No lighting, restricted to fewer colors, No real 3D, etc.
Because software mode was the only renderer SRB2 had when it was started and it's the official rendering system. All other systems should look like software mode (except to avoid its limitations). OpenGL is quite buggy and often has a lots of differences with software mode, which is why it's unsupported - it won't always do what it should do, and hence they won't accept complains about it not working. OpenGL doesn't always work. Software does. In theory.
