Something else to keep in mind is that it's pretty popular to play legacy versions to see what the game used to be like, and there used to be some light swearing in the vanilla single player experience. Specifically, Final Demo versions of the game contained an Easter Egg in which you could play an unfinished version of RVZ, and the way you accessed it was by jumping on the roof of the house in GFZ1 until an NPC appeared and sent you to hell (RVZ) for being annoying. If you completed the act, you would proceed to GFZ2 and you could find him again having a picnic and he'd give you a black Chaos Emerald in exchange for leaving him alone. Together with the other seven, this allowed you to transform into Hyper Sonic.

A later version of the game contained the same NPC hidden in an area of CEZ (I forget which act). He had repented from his ways of banishing others to hell just for being annoying, and would now instead send you to heaven (AGZ). As far as I'm aware this was the final appearance of the character, and he has not made any direct appearances since.

However, a reference to the original Easter Egg is in the current version of the game, accessed via Final Demo Zone. The house in GFZ1 is destroyed, and you can jump down into the hole located there to access the old RVZ. Surviving and making it to the GFZ2 section will once again allow you to go to the picnic spot where instead of the black emerald you are now rewarded with all seven Chaos Emeralds which allows you to transform into your Super form while in Final Demo Zone.

I've Always found this as a creepy easter egg. It haunted me to my core.

...which allows you to transform into your Super form while in Final Demo Zone.
You... Say that like transforming into super is otherwise impossible in the level? Just enter the level via a save file with all 7 chaos emeralds, since you can access the bonus levels in there.

You're arriving at an implication that I never actually implied. I simply stated what the emeralds in the level do and what their presence is a reference to, I never said anything about there being no other way to obtain them. Obviously there are other ways, such as loading the stage via a save file that has them, or via the objectplace console command, or via pandora's box.
