Why do people make spambots?

Seriously, why do they? I mean, why do people waste thier time programming a spam bot for a forum, what's the point? Is there something I'm missing, or do people just do it to completely annoy other people for no reason?

Because every so often, some idiot clicks the link and buys something. Since it costs them practically nothing to send out a billion messages, even getting one sucker to buy something is profitable.

Yeah, the forum even went down lately because of spambots. The reason is just plain simple. Advertising whatever. Products, sites, their home-made virus, and whatever. Just purely advertising. Of course, there are some idiots that waste their time just to annoy people. But most bots just spam to advertise.

Actually I would take out the products. Sometimes there not advertising products, in my opinion, they are advertising!

Usually bots are advertising three things:

1)Porn.
2)Sexual stimulation tablets
3)Homeowners Insurance
(all have some sort of gain; Homeowners Insurance for the foolish saps)
So yeah, I think it's pretty self-explanatory as to why we need to get rid of them.

The bot makers aren't really "stupid." They're taking advantage of open development to sell their products.

Making it illegal for stupid people to use the internet would:
A. Cause all of MySpace to shut down completely
B. Take our rights as US citizens. I would actually vote against such a law, if I could :/
