Why can't I save a game with a modded character?

Modified games can't be saved without its own gamedata.dat file.

Also, you can use the command "isgamemodified" to check if the game is modified and if secrets can be unlocked (and if you can use save slot too)

It's a sort of anti-cheat, custom characters usually modify the way the game plays, so unless that custom WAD uses it's own gamedata files you can't save game with it.

Pretty much like Romio said. It's there to stop you from loading HMS123311 or whoever and getting all the unlockables and emblems with no effort at all.

Same, they don't use their own .dat files = no saving.

You can make your own WAD file and give it a seperate custom save file, but it's a bit of work and only works as long as a character for each slot you fill is loaded. If you try to load a save of when you had 5 characters loaded and you only have 3, you'll crash the game when you try to scroll to that slot.
