Let's see here.

Sonic kills enemies by jumping on them, Mario kills enemies by jumping on them.

Sonic does crazy scripted stunts, Mario does crazy non-scripted stunts.

Wouldn't be too different. Mario could use the scripted areas almost as well as Sonic, though Sonic would have some trouble making some jumps in Mario levels. Though the levels are rarely built around the whole, 10 different jumps bit.
