Water slides don't disable forward/backward control in 2D mode

When you're riding a water slide, you're only supposed to be able to strafe left and right or jump. Forward and backward do not help you speed up or slow down. In 2D mode, however, left and right (or strafe left and strafe right), which now correspond to "forward" and "backward", CAN be used to speed up and slow down.

Uhm... can I get an example WAD here? There's a waterslide in one of the acts of Volcano Zone and I'm pretty sure it does not act like this.

Actually, I kinda think this is useful. Since you can't strafe to the "sides" in 2D mode, it makes sense for you to have some control besides jumping. Just my opinion though.

It makes hazards which you need to jump over useless, because you can just hold right and forgo all the timing that would be involved.

Then how about building hazards that revolve around this mechanics? Such as overly large pits in which you do need to press forward while jumping in order to make it, or perhaps some horizontal crushers which cannot be jumped over, and force you to slow down and wait for them to retract otherwise you get damage (think spikes on its side)?
