Okay I downloaded this program, but I have NO idea on how to record something....

Alright, you got that. Now download FRAPS. Set it up, when in the game you want to play, press the Movie Start Hotkey (Default is F9). When you want the recording to end, press the hotkey again. Now check your output folder. Movie is big, isn't it? Go into VirtualDub, and open it, go into Video -> Compression. This option can make the movie Loads smaller.

I'd rather not...download a trial version of FRAPS.

Well you sure can't record movies with VirtualDub.

VirtualDub isn't used for direct recording. It's used for clipping, adding subs (if you have the necessary secondary programs), or, most commonly, re-encoding videos in different formats/codecs.
