The Genius of the Turret Enemies

You know, while I was attempting to design a level, I realized just how weird the Turret enemy is. No matter how far you think you're away from its trigger radius, no matter how high you get above it, and no matter how hard you try to block it off by using the "Impassible" or "Block Enemies" effects on linedefs, these things are ruthless. You can't even kill them unless you crush them. If Robotnik had only used the Turret enemies, he could've possibly won.
 
Turrets may be ruthless, but if placed properly, they're a very interesting obstacle that you can deal with in a number of ways. You can either take a risk and run as fast as you can once you see a turret, or hide behind a wall before it starts firing and run as fast as you can once it stops. There are many interesting things you can do with turrets, but unlike many other enemies, placing a turret right in the middle of a big open room with nowhere to run for cover is incredibly cheap.
