Super Form Help

How do I turn Super? I got 7 emeralds, thoked with shadow and Sonic, but nothing happened. Are there 8 emeralds?

Or is that you can't turn super in modified games?

If you dont see 7 emeralds when you press and hold tab then you can't turn super.

Ack.....Rankings won't come up. How do I use startrings? I want to get at least 50 rings as a headstart in emerald stages.
