Cat Person, not a Catperson
As someone who played Spice Runners way back when, and I will add the context that I have not played it since the 2.0 betas, I always loved the idea of these circuit high score esque modes, and wanted to make something a bit more refined (hopefully), with less layers of old code. Basically a do-over.

Right now most of the round functionality is present in it's most basic forms, as well as groundworks for music playback and customization.
A good chunk of my older projects will likely be incorporated into this one, seeing as I need a place to use em.




Current Features:

Ghost and Revive system

Taking fatal damage will make you a ghost, leaving you unable to pick up rings or do damage (to the best of my ability that I could program...)
You also cannot complete laps or end your run, and you'll instantly lose when the round ends if either everyone's a ghost, or finished their run themselves.
You can revive by touching another player, simple as.

(Some might remember this as another mod of mine! This was the project it was originally meant for.)

The actual darn gamemode!!!

Getting to the end of the level will teleport everyone to it, maintaining players' speeds and directing them backwards.
Your goal then is to rack up points by collecting rings, hitting enemies and other players, and doing laps from finish to start!

You're on a timer, once it runs out all ghost players are immediately sent away with a loss, and anyone who dies will immediately lose too.
Players still alive will get "overtime" based on their average lap times, adding just a little bit of time back each lap, not enough to go infinitely, though.

You can actually finish your run and cash in your score by finding a big ring usually hidden somewhere off to the side in the middle of the map!

My aim is on a couple of things, foremost to not change the abilities of characters in any way if possible.
Player Vs Player shenanigans are more of a focus than some funny chasing png, which was scrapped quite early on conceptually for this.
Supplement the original gametypes, rather than clash with them.


Hopefully I can remember to keep posting here about any significant progress, and here's to hoping I finish this! :3

Progress is steady, still.

Curiously, however, after playtesting with friends a bunch, I've decided to scrap the actual thing that chases you, ironically enough.
I really found this whole mode to work better just as is, as a mix between race and competition. Having some wack invincible enemy that follows you would only add frustration and complexity more than it's worth.

Name's staying the same though, can be re-interpreted.

Actually nearing completion of what I'd consider 1.0 hopefully within next week!
All that's left is some HUD design and animation, and possibly bug fixes here and there.

I'd show more stuff but honestly there's a lot to show and not an easy way to do it through gifs.
Though there's an OST by Saxashitter now and he's been killin' it tbh!!!

From the people I've had play this mode they've had a ton of fun, even if some of the balancing responsibility ends up being on whoever ends up hosting the mod, and with what character mods...

This has been a blast to work on and I hope to get at least an (1) download when it releases okay thnak you bye i go to sleep now goodnight theoretical reader.

Alright, I decided to take some time to record a gif of some HUD animations ingame already, still really proud of them!
The screen tilt + zoom-in can be configured via console command, turned up or down, your choice.

Additionally, while I don't feel like sharing the music until release, as imo it's something to behold, here's a single track of a single segment of a single song. :)

I just find this particular drum loop to be pure insanity and wanted to share lmfao. props to sax that guy's a magician
