SRB2 Lost Media

Welcome To The SRB2 Lost Media Thread!

In here we basically talk/ try to find lost media from srb2.
Y'all are probably familiar with some lost media mods such as the first version of SMS or that one Dreamcast sonic mod (Dreamcast is not lost anymore), and many more!

but since this year we're pretty much finding a whole bunch of lost and forgotten mods, prototypes, and builds. So I might as well make a thread:)

Anyways just a recap of what the srb2 community found
  • SRB2 2000 February Prototype
  • SRB2 Christmas 0.90 (FOUND)
  • SA2 mod final demo
Stuff that is lost or gone forever
1. SMS 1.09.2 (who knows if this mod will ever be found)

2. Oddball models (spoke with LonelyFoxz about this they had a couple screenshots of what was the MSONIC aka neo sonic model but I'm pretty sure that's lost to time)

3. Sonic and the Black Knight (there's an old video out there showcasing what appears to be a Dr. pepper chars reskin? There was never a link to it nor anything about it except for a thread during the 2.1 era about lost wads)

4. Dreamcast Sonic (this one is I guess you could say partially found since still not many people know about although I'm pretty sure now you can download from the SRB2 discord server PLEASE DONT SPAM MY DMs FOR IT)

These are pretty much the ones I know or the most popular. I know I didn't cover most popular lost wads, or stages but hey that's what this thread is for to talk about srb2 lost media!

On his youtube channel, he talk about Invader Zim being playable with control simiraly as Knuckles
Zim was an incomplete multiplayer only character that was included in all Final Demo versions except 1.09.4, he only had standing and jumping sprite and was the only character to have voice lines, playing when he got hurt or by pressing the taunt button.

Screenshots of Zim in Zim's Base Zone (Version 1.01):

i never seen anyone talk about this until now! thanks for the information
No problem, I have played way too much Final Demo.

Back on the topic of SRB2 lost media, Demo 2 Megaman.

srb2webdownload-5april2001.jpg

Through the Wayback Machine, I was looking at the 5th April 2001 archive of srb2.org and found out that Megaman had a character wad for demo 2, trying to download it just leaves you on a blank page. Now we know Megaman was later included in Demo 3 alongside Chao and Cinossu but as a part of Srb2.srb never as a seperate wad.

I use the a back in time website to go see past to the current here the link

something i really want to find is the mfa file of the original srb2 that was made in klik and play
It would be really cool to see what the community could do with the source code of all the 2D games (SRB1, SRB2 2D, SRBX)

Oh my god I found a working bin and cue files for the Christmas v0.96 CD and it has the chao and millennium wads hold on.

The Millennium wad crashes the game when trying to warp to the added maps but the chao wad works fine.

I got the bin and cue files from the SRB20YA github because the actual download link on the website doesn't work.
(It is the SRB2XMASCD.zip.001-005 files i just put them all together in a folder and extracted using 7zip)

  1. SRB2 was developed in The Games Factory, not Klik & Play.
  2. The source file would be a .GAM, not a .MFA.
  3. We have the original source code in the form of a .CCA.
EDIT: The Games Factory's source file are .GAM files, not .TGF ones. My bad!

Just to go a bit more indepth,

SRB1 was created using KliK & Play and compiled using The Games Factory
SRB2 2D and SRBX were created using The Games Factory
SRB1 uses .gam while SRB2 2D and SRBX use .CCA
