Special Stage Concept (meh22x.wad;plant.wad;textures.wad)

Ok, I've been working on a special stage concept that I will be using in a mod I'm making for SRB2, but sadly...

No progress will be shown anywhere on any forum, and only on my website, coming soon, don't ask for it. So DO NOT GET YOUR HOPES UP, NOT THAT YOU WILL, but whatever.

I need some help with it.

Screenshots:

OpenGL - The start

The plant scenery I tried to add... It works, but I don't like how it looks. It has multiple frames for the sides, but that doesnt make it look any more normal than it does now.

A closeup of the rock formation, which I made before the tree.
Yes, I will do the fade-out effect for the tree as well, but I'll do that later...
(Yes, I notice the redwall, I'll fix it some other time also >_<)

A zoom-tube river I made WITHOUT THE ZOOM TUBE WIZARD (lol @ wadauthor)

That's just the beginning, but it isn't long. Remember, this is just a concept, which is going into my mod as a practice level, because most of the stages will be... different than what you see in SRB2.

It's a kind of Sonic-and-the-Secret-Rings-esque thing. It's only the basics. I've drawn two of the others on paper, and they're pretty long, but I feel like it could be longer.

Any advice would be nice, like:

- What I could add (3D or two-dimentional scenery, because bushes and flowers just don't cut it)

- What I could do to make it lengthier(word?)

- What I could improve on

- Etc.

The wads:

meh22x.wad - The level

plant.wad - The plant scenery and SOC

textures.wad - The textures I added (there are a lot more, and I have over 8000 seemless textures, do not ask for them, and what other ones you get in this are a bonus, enjoy them >_>)

It would be wonderful if you could help...

Final comments -

The reason the end is so dull, is because I finished the structure, and I was just adding the scenery...

The end is broken in this one, as I use SRB2 Doom Builder for items and selecting sectors that were too small to select. Besides that, Wad Author does the job, and does it well.

One last thing, I got 15:42 on GFZ 1... I was wondering... is that a good time?

You were supposed to download all three of the wads, or it will not work properly.

If you decided not to, that's your problem.

By the way, you need to use a question mark, not a period for questions.

Easy.

Honestly, did no one know that you could change the transparency of transparent FOFs? Sorry, only 4 transparencies in software, but ANY transparencies in OpenGL!

=D

You know, you can get other transparencies by putting transparent FOFs right behind other FOFs, and get a nice blur effect? Or maybe that only works on flats...

I don't like your free file hosting service.

Google sendspace. Though it expires, it doesn't have spazz attacks like yours does. >_>

I did download all the wads. See:

Actually, texturepatch.wad were the TEXTURE1 and PNAMES lumps that I hosted for everyones use to add their own textures, you didn't unfortunately download textures.wad becuase apparently you think you can use either one, and it will work.

YOU NEED TEXTURES.WAD, IF THE OTHER WAD IS IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TOPIC, IT MOST LIKELY WONT WORK

Come on, I need suggestions! This input isn't helping...

When I download textures.wad I get texturepatch.wad. Make sure you put in the right wad for the link.

Nice, but I think there's a glitch with the end. Once you hit the spring and you go into a blackness, which appears to be the end, there's a hole in the ground that doesn't really do anything. Is the hole supposed to be there?

Seriously, this wad hurts to play.

For one, I can't decide which renderer to play in. Software displays a huge missing texture like error, and the trees don't look as good. Now, much as the missing texture thing really shouldn't be caused by something normal, it still needs to be fixed. On the other hand, OpenGL still has some REDWALL, and besides, OpenGL burns my eyes worse than..... anything.

But in terms of gameplay, you're still in the primitive form. You're doing stupid gimmicks that don't even work half the time, stupid stunts, and that black thing at the end is flawed beyond comparison. Another thing, why the heck can't I go backwards? Why the heck is there this freaking big FOF in front of me blocking my way back? And why the heck should I strafe? I've been fine without forever, both playing and testing my own levels. That's just stupid. If your average player can't do it, why should you make them?

It was just a concept, I only made it in an hour or so, that's probably why it's glitchy, because I didn't actually work hard enough to make it perfect, just enough to make it work.

I just tried this gimmick because, I thought it was a funish way to do a special stage. I have more gimmick ideas, I just thought of trying this.

But all in all, does the scenery look good? AND IF IT DOES, COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT I COULD ADD TO THE REMAINING SCENERY, OR TO WHATEVER OTHER WAD I MAKE?

Also, if this map isn't good, what type of special stage should I make? I mean, constructive critisism is nice, and it's one thing, but only complaining about the obvious glitches that exist (because I'm pretty sure I said BEST VIEWED IN OPENGL) doesn't really help me. I knew the glitches were there, and I know how to fix them.

Ideas please. Some of those would help.

Try using middle textures to make your bush.

Non-linearity. Look at the official special stages. They don't tell you to go in a line, or to strafe, though I'm sure it helps.

And my eyes hurt in OpenGL. Your point?

Explain how using middle textures will help, and do you think its possible to make a good linear special stage?

Remember, I didn't even try with this one. It's just a concept.

It's possible to make a good linear special stage in SRB2. We already have them. Try the Nights mode. However, failing an insane amount of time figuring out how to work that, SRB2's engine simply doesn't support gimmicky linear special stages, ala Sonic 2. It's just not the best of ideas.
