Sonic Robo Blast 2 on the Sega 32X

Doom was ported on the Sega 32X and SRB2 was based off of Doom. Is it possible to port Sonic Robo Blast 2 on the Sega 32X?

The SRB2 engine is far more complex than Doom and with a lot more rendering features. In addition, the average SRB2 level is far more complex and expansive in terms of detail, layout, size, and logic compared to the original set of maps that comprised Doom (no FoF's or partial transparency outside of dithering for instance).

It is true that Doom was made to work on consoles, but if the 32X was anywhere like the SNES then Id would've actually had to downgrade the graphics compared to PC (the SNES version for instance was very low resolution and did not have textured floors or ceilings).

In short, no. Even if you found some magical optimization routines that allowed passable visuals for an SRB2 port, there is no way it would all fit into memory.

SRB2 is derivative of the DOOM engine but it is not the same thing anymore. It has become something far above and beyond the limitations of the original engine it was developed up from. It's kind of like saying that the Source Engine is developed up from GoldSrc and so a PC that can just barely run Half-Life should also be able to run Half-Life 2.

I mean technically there is a "port" of srb1 to the Megadrive so who knows, maybe someone could demake SRB2 TGF to run on a 32x and you technically have SRB2 on a 32X, albeit a very simple and old version.

i am currently crying in the corner of my room.

It’s a real port.
SSNTails has a repository of a 32X port of Doom on Github with many branches relating to SRB2 adjacent things. (I.E. things like “chasecam” and “specialstage”)

I Would never have thought about Srb2 on the damn Sega 32X of all people.
