Sonic Adventure 2, What are your true thoughts on it?

Well, it's a lot more action-oriented than the more exploration-based Sonic Adventure, but I don't think the discrepancy in the title is that big of a deal at all.

I also thought the action stages in Adventure 2 were one heck of a lot more refined, and generally more thrilling and fun than those of its prequel. The big trade off is that the structure of Adventure 1 (especially the Adventure Fields and their triggered events) makes the player feel much more involved in the story. On the other hand, the story of Adventure 2 unfolds as if watching an extended action film.

I loved this better then the first game.

+Pros
Graphics don't look like crap
Unique character switching, no "replay level as slow character"
2 player
Chao garden better, and controls much better
Much better replay value

Something I didn't like was that water level as knuckles. And that planet level as rouge. Drove me nuts to get an A on it!

Sonic Adventure was the very first Dreamcast game. You shouldn't compare it to a much later one which unlocks much more power from the system.

I think that the Sonic/Shadow stages and Tails/Eggman stages were the beginning of the end for Sonic Team's level design.

Jak 1 was one of the very first PS2 games. It looked great and looked a lot better then late gen.

.... Just saying. :<

PS2 is a far more powerful system than the Dreamcast.

Sonic Adventure 2 is a great game, but it does get stale, as the Sonic stages are not as good as they were in it's prequel.

Personally I dislike SA2 for nearly everything it stands for.

Sonic/Shadow's gameplay, have some good ideas (like not having the lightdash charge up). But its overall experience is completely its terrible level design. nearly 3/4's of each stage is watching said character run in a straight line, or through a loop, etc. The other 1/4 is filled with bland/shallow platforming. Not to mention how linear it all is, offering little to none replay value.

Tails/Eggman's takes everything I liked about Gamma's gameplay in SA1, and completely ruins it also. The mechs are just ridiculously slow, and clunky. Not to mention the cramped, and once again, linear level design.

Knuckles gameplay I hated from SA1 in the first place, but they somehow made it worse. The levels are overly large, and on top of that are boring and uninteresting at the same time, hell every level in the game is both boring and unintersting. The radar can only pick up one emerald at a time, which in all honesty makes the level even longer than they should. Hell the clues don't even help without proper knowledge of the levels.

The only memorable peice of music I can actually say I like is from Sonic's Pyramid Cave, the rest is pretty bland, not to mention the character themes, oh God, how they completely butchered Sonic's theme "It Doesn't Matter."

The story, could've been fine alone. The main theme of its o.k., but the backstory, as of ShtH, is absolutely terrible. I can understand Gerald's motives for creating Shadow, but did he really have to be a haphazard clone of the leader of the most absolutely bland alien race known in existence?

So yeah, tl;dr I hate the game.

Your point....... :p

Something that I wish was better in SA2 is Amy. Shes just a cheap character that is very annoying. At least buff up her stats and give her less ring attacks..!

Sonic Adventure 2 is good. The emerald hunting stages are a pain in the **** though. That and when the moon blew up there were no side effects on earth. Otherwise good game that Sega should emulate more in their more recent games.

I know there was a similar thread that I shared my thoughts on, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. I'm not fond of the game at all, anyway. It screwed up too many things the previous game did right, and most of the levels and soundtrack are same-ish and uninnovative, or otherwise just suck. It baffles me how SA2 is usually received as superior to its predecessor.

I own the Trial/Dreamcast/Gamecube versions of Sonic Adventure 2! my favourite is the Gamecube version since it's fun playing as characters in stages their not supposed to be in (Action Replay Max) and the Chao Garden is fun.

"Uh, his point is that your comparison doesn't make sense because there's a big difference between hardware?"

Good point. Though, you still have to admit it could of been done a little better. (Mouth anyone?)

"Then what reason would there to use her at all if she doesn't have overpowered attacks? "

I did also say change her stats! :< Make her faster and higher acceleration?

....I think its unfair.

When I choose Amy, and there are 50000 rings on the stage...
My friend is frozen for hours since once he gets unfrozen I'll have 60 rings already picked up. Though, it IS funny.

Amy's for a beginner player. She may be slow, but she has attacks for every 10 rings. You may not agree, but I'd say that's pretty balanced.
Hah. That's like saying Colin isn't broken in Advance Wars because every single one of his units are weak. Amy does have a small disadvantage, but the fact that her advantage is so great makes her broken. In City Escape, she can stop time once she gets off of her board.

Ah, Sonic Adventure 2(Battle). I like that game a lot more than I do Sonic Adventure, actually. It's probably caused by nostalgia goggles, as I didn't get 1 as a kid. I do agree that level design is generally better in 1, but I just think 2 feels better. Thankfully I sold it, so I can never prove myself wrong.

BTW, Nitpicking I know, but Amy doesn't stop time, just locks the other player's controls. So doing it in the-rail-stage-the-name-of-which-I-can't-remember won't do you much good, for example. Speaking of which, I always annoyed the hell out of my sister by picking Metal Sonic in that stage and just zooming through it with his speed.

That's what make's it worse. Amy can't stop time. She can kill you by using her special, either by making you kill herself or she kills you herself.
