Simpler way to host servers for friends.

Jammin'

NNNO WAY! I CAN'T BELIEEEEVE THIS!
This tutorial uses a neat piece of software called Autopunch. It's basically a piece of software that (in Layman's terms) tricks your computer into thinking connections are LAN connections. Download

Here are the steps you take to host a server using Autopunch:

  1. Open the game you want to host.
  2. Open Autopunch and "punch" your game.
  3. Check your IP and/or port.
  4. Send your IP to the people you want to play with.
  5. Wait for them to join.

Q: My anti-virus says it's a virus! Did you trick me?
A: No, I did not. Autopunch is safe. Try and put everything relating to it on a whitelist.

Q: My friends can't join! What's going on?
A: Either you set up your server improperly, or the game is just sadly incompatible with Autopunch.

Q: Did you make Autopunch?
A: I did not.

Q: How do you check your IP/port?
A: There are multiple ways, but to check my IP, I personally just go to this website. (Don't be worried about the port unreachable stuff. Autopunch doesn't need the port.)

Don't be afraid to ask more questions in the comments. But I cannot guarantee I'll be able to give an answer.

Yep, dosen't work for me. Port is still unreachable, but thanks for the Tutorial.
Nonono, that's fine. It doesn't mean anything assuming you're using autopunch. Or did you try hosting with some friends?

Using a VPN (Hamachi, Radmin, probably Zerotier but I haven't heard of that one lol) to host and join games is usually advised against as they often involve routing the connection to a different spot before reaching the target, which can add to latency.
Software like Autopunch are possible solutions, but they often involve getting all people to use the same software for them to be able to connect.

Port forwarding is usually the most straightforward way to host an online game - It can be hard if you don't have your router's manual, but it's usually pretty simple to work with.
