should i make my character have sprites or a 3d model?

i have little to no experience with either, so i'm not sure what to do. i think making a single 3d model and animating it would be simpler than making an entirely new sprite for everything. on the other hand, i feel like sprites fit in the game better. assuming i do make a model, should it be low-poly? and how come there are more addon characters with sprites than with 3d models?

pretty sure all character mods need sprites, and to be completely honest, i find spriting more easy than modeling. alternatively, you could pre-render models and have them as sprites, like paint 3d sonic or tails cyclone’s placeholder sprites.

Making a 3D model and using pictures of it for sprites is an option.
It all comes down to your preference.

The reason why there's more characters with 2D sprites is because it fits the game's artstyle better.
