Thing placement by Spazzo.
Music from Phantasy Star Online (Vol Opt 2)
Everything else by JTE.

Ships of war, originally called Battle Ships Zone, is a wad in which players can duke it out either by throwing rings, or by shooting cannonballs at one another. The wad was first made for one of the very early 1.08 betas. The first Battleships wad is the longer of the two, and is great for long, linear battles.
The second one, using a diffrent texture, cut the length in two, and made it a great place to either play match, tag, or even capture the flag in.
If you decide to go into a cannon head first, you can wait as long as you like, and can release by wiggling inside of it. Do be warned, however, if a cannonball lands on you, you will die on the spot :P.
Thanks to Chabo, Hotdog003, SonicTails218, Ritz, and all others who helped me beta-test Ships of War in the chatroom.
Any suggestions and/or comments are greatly appreciated.

-_- And if you even THINK about complaining... You don't want to know how many of Spazzo's errors I've had to correct (directly or otherwise)...
He is truely on a path to becoming one of the great pointy haired bosses one day!

Oh...

Man, Spazzo, you're taking everyone's credit.

First DMSC, then Super Sonic, now this.

?
Bigboi...
Bigboi bigboi bigboi...
What i wrote for this wad is the truth.
JTE did the actual "level" part of it, I added things.
How is that taking all the credit?
This is more JTE's wad than mine. I just released it on the message board.
With Supersonic, I said many times that Chaos Zero 64 was the main spriter with the wad.
With DMSC, Shuffle betrayed me, and stuff.
I give everybody credit for what they did, and I say credit for myself for what imput I had, in which I dont add more or less to.
I don't see whats so hard to get about that.

The object placement is horrid, though. The explosion rings are too close (read: stuck) to the ground, and what's up with that line o' rings linking the ships? Also, the smaller version has a glitch - pop up more than three cannonballs from the Mario blocks and they will remain floating in the air (I suppose that the bottom ball doesn't drop down after the block bobs).

Other than that, good show! This is probably the most original concept I've ever seen. Oh, and Spazzo, you don't have to "wiggle", just hold down Forward or Backpedal and turn around until you get shot. Sometimes it just takes 90 degrees, others take a full 360.

Yeah, doing that also works.
I tend to just go crazy with the controls, cause the faster i do it, the less of a chance of somebody coming behind me and giving me a swift kick in the butt. :P

Yeah, its been known, and basically, just dont press the block more than 2 times at once.

This was originally gunna be in SA mode, but that adding in homing and analog control just didnt make it worth it.
You can still turn on lightdash in a netgame though to make it work :P
Thanks for that, Neo!

I figured that, but either something's wrong with the bitsets or you can lightdash through the death pit. I figure since you were involved, the former makes more sense =P

i think that the rings are JUST high enough not to touch the death pit, so its safe to light dash.
Of course, thats an educated guess :P

What I mean, Spazz, is that you seem to do the "Lemme help!" thing a lot.

Meh, that level looks way too empty. All it is, is a bunch of flat land with rings and without much obstacles. Heck, I could make a map like this in a very short amount of time without even trying. No offense.

forgot to mention the uber-cool cannons and such :P
But yes, the larger version might be a bit spacious.

What we started with is still hosted on JTE.rose-manor.net ...
The smaller version I gave to him with only the cannons and the CTF flags placed, if the rings connecting the ships are below the water there, that's because he just copy/pasted them from the larger version, which doesn't have as deep a pit.

The large version wasn't supposed to exist anymore when I made the smaller version, and all the floor/ceiling heights were changed to be standard multiples of 64 rather then 10s as in the original, but for whatever reason (probably for all the work Spazzo wasted before bugging me to make the ships smaller), Spazzo decided to release both versions together.

I originally got the idea while playing SA City (That's how old this is) one day, because we really loved pushing statues onto the springs and such, so I wanted to make something cooler to do with the statues using the springs. Originally I was going to have you sit on the ship and shoot the cannonballs to kill badguys out on smaller ships in the ocean, but instead I decided to make it a battle game in which you tried to shoot at other PEOPLE, and ultimately sink their ship. Too bad sinking the ships was impossible back then and you rarely got hit by the cannonballs because the ships were so big...

You weren't actually supposed to be able to get between the ships originally, nor fire yourself from the cannons... But setting some linedef to impassible so you couldn't leave the ship also made the cannonballs unable to leave the ship as well, so I figued I'd add the lightdash rings anyway so Sonic could easily get across as well and not just Knuckles or Tails. The resulting ability to fire yourself at-will from the cannons was totally unexpected, but cool.

hrm...

I dived into the water on the 'big' one, and I must ask,

Why are there item boxes down there on the death pit?
