Saving the Secrets Menu

After completing the Castle Eggman Zone Act 3 level, the credits displayed and I got an emblem. In addition, the secrets menu was unlocked which contains a level selector. However, when I go to "1 Player" -> "Save Game" it does nothing.

In addition, when I quit the game and come back, the secrets menu is not there. I've tried twice now and every time the secrets menu is not displayed after quiting the game and coming back into it.

Is there a way to save the secrets menu so that it exists after restarting the game?

EDIT: Poking around on the wiki, I saw that gamedata.dat is used to store "information on time attack records and secrets, as well as other game-specific variables". So, I did:

cd ~/.srb2
touch gamedata.dat
chmod 666 gamedata.dat

Then I beat the last level agan, quit the game, and the secrets menu was still there :)
