Ok if you don't know Rule: 15 is a rule of Srb2 modding where you shouldn't ask people to make a mod for you which is just makes me want to break my keyboard but how I encountered it was when I asked for a Mega Man x mod https://mb.srb2.org/threads/can-someone-make-a-mega-man-x-mod.34202/#post-560317 but you can't comment because ugh I keep having to say it Rule: 15 just if you have gotten annoyed by this just release your Fellings here SWEREING IS ALLOWED so don't report ANYONE

I think I saw something like that on GBanana, Somebody asked for Whisper from IDW and they never got that

The reason that Rule 15 exists is because SRB2's modders don't need to feel the pressure of requests. You are not the boss of modders, and I don't believe you shouldn't treat them like your own personal slaves. Instead, trying to learn how to mod yourself would be much more beneficial to the community; after all, there are plenty of tutorials on topics such as map-making and lua.

There are several reasons we have rules against asking people to make things for you.

The first, and most important, is that when you ask someone to make a mod for you, you are asking them to give their time and effort for nothing in return. Take a character addon for example. You're not asking "can someone make this character?" You're asking "can someone please make over 200 sprites and probably some custom code for free?" It's just not respectful of people's time or skills. If they're not getting anything in return, then they'd rather work on whatever thing they're passionate about. The SRB2 community is an art community, after all -- people sending DMs on Twitter to artists begging them for free art is kind of a meme at this point, and begging for mods (which involve all kinds of art) is pretty much the same thing. That said, it is perfectly reasonable to commission someone to make a character or other addon for you -- we just require that any financial transactions take place outside the forums. Asking to collaborate on something is also fine, it just means that you contribute something to the finished product along with one or more people.

The other reason rule 15 is in place is because if it wasn't, this place would be slammed with people requesting things to be made all the time. It would accomplish little more than making people scroll past more threads to find actual discussions about things.

Generally speaking, with most kinds of art, if you aren't willing to give anything in return for the art (or mods in this case), you just have to do it yourself. It takes time to learn to do everything you need to make a great mod, sure, but those skills are useful in all kinds of applications far beyond SRB2. The modding skills I learned got me into STJr, but they were useful in developing my own game, too! There are lots of resources you can use to get started on your modding journey, most notably our wiki and the friendly people (and pinned messages) on our Discord server.

I understand that following rules can be frustrating, but please understand that they're not in place because we hate fun or something. These forums have been around since the early 2000s, and these are simply what we've found to be the best policies over our time here as staff. We don't really like having to enforce them, but that's just how it has to be if we want to keep things running smoothly around here.

With that out of the way, since this thread is just here to complain about our rules, I'm sure you can understand why I am locking it. Feel free to shoot us a message in the Reports & Non-Technical Questions for Forum Staff forum if you have any further questions or concerns.
