RPG Maker XP Help?

I'm making a game in RPG Maker XP, and in the beginning, you make your character's name. Is there a way to make it so that when text appears, it can display your character's name? I tried putting ":character_name" and "character_name" (those are the variables in the script that are the characters' file's name).

I'm not sure if there is a way to do it without scripting it.

But you can use Hermes's (AMS). (Which is very easy to use.)
If you "install" that, all you have to do is

/n[0 or 1]

0 is whoever is the party leader at the time.
1 is who is 1st in the database for actors.
