Question about vars in soccing

In the state edit window of SOCEdit, where values can be set for var1 and var2, is there a way to set a variable to an expression representing a number that does not necessarily always stay the same? For instance, to the tag of the sector that contains the nearest instance of a specific thing? This is just an example; if this particular example is impossible, but the answer to my actual question is yes, I apologize.

Try looking at A_LinedefExecute. It doesn't seem to be what you're looking for, but you might be able to work with it. However, to my knowledge, it's the only soc action in 1.09.4 that uses sector tags.

Unfortunately no, vars must be integers.

In that sense they aren't really variables are they? Parameters technically, but in no way variables.
