Question about the Chaos Emeralds:

Does collecting all 8 in co-op do anything extra than collecting all 7? That is, the one you get from Black Hole in addition to the rest of the special stages.

There is, actually. Black Hole, the 8th special stage, holds the 8th emerald.

And how am I supposed to go there? Any special requirements or just an 8th token? (Sorry for not answering the question, I really didn't know there was an 8th Emerald in 2.1)

You unlock it when you get every single NiGHTS emblem.

You unlock SS8 when you get an A rank or better in all other special stages.
The "chaos emerald" in SS8 is a bullshit emerald designed by JTE to let you actually beat SS8, because apparently hitting the "goal" sign in special stages does nothing if you don't actually have an emerald. Earlier builds allowed you to hit "goal" but because of coop related stuff, that was nixed. So the 8th emerald is filler
