Proper voice system?

Been struggling to get a proper voice system working for my custom character without baking sounds into the files. I wanted to start off with a simple randomized jumping grunt but nothing I have done, even with referencing code with permission from another character has worked out. I'd want to have the same system used for other various actions, but I'm more concerned with getting a randomized jump sound right now.

Is there any easier way to do this? Mind you, I only want it playing when the player has actually pressed the jump button and has heard the initial jump sound, with the voice overlapping it.
