Project Gummy (Back in Business!)

Hello everyone!

Introduction


My name is FinalGamma, and I am new to SRB2 Message Board Forums. Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been (and still is my favorite fan-made sonic game) since my early elementary/grade school years. My older brother introduced me to the game at a young age; since then, I have taken a very keen interest in the game's growth. I really and truly appreciate the developers for taking their time in perfecting their craft into the game.

My Objective

I plan to make a fleshed-out character...my sonic original character/creation, Gummy the Cat (Gummy for short). And why "Gummy"? Gummy is a nine-year-old who likes to eat gum and other candy and chill with Chao. But, he will go to the ends of the earth to fight for his Chao companions, no matter the costs.


I definitely will work on a backstory of my character and showcase early concept designs of my character. Anyways, Gummy will be a pretty versatile character whose arsenal will pertain to gum. Gummy chews different kinds of gum with special properties that he can manipulate when blowing said gum. For instance, he can quickly chew and blow up a parasol, granting him the ability to glide and slowly descend (like Knuckles the Echidna, Big the Cat from Sonic Heroes, Kirby, etc.).

I'll have more in-depth explanations on his gum abilities (as I am not fully set and stone on my character's functionality).


I also want to grant him access to the Chao Garden, where he can select his favorite squishy chubby baby friends to help him along his journey. For instance, Gummy uses the Chao key and selects a power type Chao. That power type Chao will be able to perform basic Chao skills but will have the ability to break certain obstacles/walls that characters such as Sonic and Tails cannot do.

If a player decides they need help platforming or feel like taking flight and soaring to the goal, just Chao key and grab a fly-type Chao.

Once again, I am still not set and stone on my ideas, but I am open to any suggestions regarding skills and functionality for my character.

I am a college student as well as an aspiring pixel artist. I started my pixel art journey around January 10, 2022. From the time I started up until this post (on March 2, 2022), I have greatly improved thanks to the tutorials provided by MotorRoach, Eve, my older bro, and many more.

I am also a manga reader, and I am currently reading En'en no Shōbōtai aka Fire Force by Atsushi Ōkubo).
I also enjoy video games (mainly platformers and adventure Esque games like Sonic and Zelda). I can tolerate some fighting games...



With that said, I thank anyone who comes across my first post and reads this. I am excited to be a part of this SRB2 message board community, and I can't wait to show you what I have in store.

Also, I spent almost three days making this CSS portrait for SRB2. I did this on Adobe Illustrator, and I considered making this drawing my CSS (in the appropriate resolution). I'd appreciate feedback on how it looks. Also, I'm new to digital art overall. I'm not familiar with art terminology/lingo, but I guess it's a part of the learning process.

Thank you! I'll try to work efficiently. Felt stuck on STND frames for a bit, but I needed to perfect that to move on.
 
Update

Hi guys!

I do apologize for this long overdue message. However, it is an appropriate time for me to say this. I am still working on Gummy, but my schoolwork warrants a lot more time and attention, and because of that, I've been working a bit sluggish. I will have finished my semester by the end of April, and I will be on Summer Break.

I'll probably be on forums at least every other day until the school semester ends.
Thank you for reading this, and I will showcase more Gummy content very soon.

Wow this is pretty good. These sprites for a beginner(I think) is pretty awesome. But about chai garden... from the scripting perspective making a chai garden will be kinda hard. I think that a chai menu hud would be good. Also chaos may be the in-game bots (from 2.2.10 version) or objects with a lot of scripts like to break walls and grab the player.

Yeah... I don't know how possible the scripting will be, but I'm gonna be optimistic and sprite most of my ideas out anyways.
I'll eventually learn how to lua and do all that stuff. Just taking it a step at a time.

Critique:
The sprite looks a bit loosely shaded and there's not much distinction from the eyes and the mouth, but I think you'll fix that soon enough. 🙂
