Possibility of creating a RPG with an Active Battle System in SRB2.

Hello all. For a while I've been wanting to get into making fan-content for Sonic, and since I really love playing RPGs (mainly JRPGs), I thought about making a Sonic RPG fan game. However, ideally I would wanna make it using the SRB2 "engine." I like the 3d environment and space, which is why I'm choosing this over RPGmaker. But I wonder if it's actually possible to make what it's in my head.

The main things I wanna include are: a Final Fantasy 13-like battle system, at least based on how the camera works and the "active" sense of it (I'm not planning on using the paradigm system), and cutscenes. I want to include sprite-animated cutscenes in moments of the story.

I wonder if this is actually possible to do, using this game as a framework. Also, this is just an idea for now. It's very ambitious, and would take obviously a long time to get things rolling. But I want to actually do something about this idea I've had in my head for a while now, instead of just wondering. Thanks in advance.

Firstly, I would take a look at the popular SRB2 Persona mod and see what's possible from that.

Secondly, while this is possible, you're almost definitely going to need to modify the source code, meaning you'll need to know how to program and compile in C. SRB2 on its own was not designed for what you are suggesting. SRB2 Persona is a source code mod for that very reason.
