Pillow shading:is it necessary sometimes?

When the nightmare is endless!!!
So i have a question is pillow shading necessary for some things like i'm making a ghost like character(it might end up turning into the cyan wisp lol) but i pillow shaded it could this still be good or does this need more detail https://imageshack.com/i/mvzg8jp
 
It's necessary for nothing but light-sources. If your ghost isn't a lightbulb, don't pillow shade it.
