a scar in time...
Hi, I created this to be used as a Final Boss/Final Level theme for Sonic Robo Blast II. Well, this began when I was improvising on the piano, and began to play some darker chords. From there, I started to get a decent melody, and thought, "Hey, I could turn this into a Robotnik theme...". So, from there, I took the melody and shaped the composition, heavily basing it upon Sonic the Hedgehog 2's Robotnik theme, and a little bit of Sonic the Hedgehog's Final Zone theme.

The piece starts out much the same as Sonic 2's Robotnik theme, but soon changes. This piece is meant to be a reflection Robotnik's mental state as he continues to fail countless times at defeating Sonic once and for all. As the piece continues, Robotnik's insanity grows.

I was originally going to put this in a level of mine, but I'm just too lazy to create levels...so if any of you would like to use it, just ask me, and please give me credit ^^
(For those of you who want to know, this took me about 30 minutes to compose. I also think I might make some more of these...making this was quite fun ^^)
Version 2 has many changes from Version 1. If you are willing, please listen to both versions. Version 2 is much more heavily influenced by Sonic 1's Final Zone, and contains some leitmotifs from that theme. If you want it in .ogg format, please tell me a site where I can upload .ogg files xD

You can listen to/download it here:

The artist or label that owns this song has not approved full-length streaming for our users. This is a 30 second preview. To listen to the full song, upload it from your music library. Tell me more.

I got this error when I played your song. I think you need to update your profile to Musician. You can do that here. Also people has been putting there songs in this topic.

Thanks JRose ^^
I've updated the profile and everything. The reason I put this one in a different topic is because this song was specifically made for SRB2, so maybe this could become an SRB2 composition topic, not just for my compositions, but others' as well :D

I still get that error but I looked it up and found this.

You will always hear the songs you upload in full-length. Please note it may take up to a few hours for songs you upload to your profile to be enabled for full-length streaming for other users.

If you continue to have this issue, please contact imeem support.

So we will just half to wait for full-length version.

It sounds pretty cool, but a final boss is not exactly what I thought of while listening to it. It sounded more like a boss for a haunted house/palace level mostly due to the prominence of a keyboard instrument in there. It also got a little repetitive, merely being the same basic melody building in intensity, I would suggest maybe making the pattern become an accompaniment of what would be the main melody.

I know what you mean, but it's difficult to put dynamics in the program I was using to write the piece xD, real instruments would help a lot xD

I was thinking about doing that...maybe I will :D
And I just did :D
I'm think I'm going to change this some more, the new melody isn't really catchy, like Sonic 1's Final Boss Theme, so I think I'm going to end up changing it, but here it is for now:

Sounds less repetitive, the problem is that whatever you added had the same amount of prominence as the background rhythm, which made it more confusing. Perhaps you could downplay the volume of the rhythm and don't make that one louder without first making the melody louder. Also make sure that the melody works with the rhythm as well, so it sounds like one piece instead of two thrown together.

Lastly, you may want to consider looping... If you were to use this as background music you would need it to loop, but if overall core of the song is this crescendo the background has then there doesn't really seem to be a good way to loop it and keep it sounding good. Perhaps you should work with the crescendo in magnitude a bit and allow it to fluctuate but above all keep it natural. That way when it loops the player won't be able to tell. (and the loop point wouldn't be right at the beginning, it would be a little ways after the intro of the song... look at some of the official oggs for examples)

Alright, thanks for the suggestions JEV3 ^^
I adjusted the volume of the new part I had added (which, for now, is the melody). No changes to the actual melody itself yet, just the dynamics. I still don't think I'm done with this composition yet. I want a melody that will remain in memory...and I don't think the current memory will do that. Also, a possible loop point (which I have in this version) goes from the downward arpeggio in the trumpet section, to the point where the trumpet first comes back in with the melody.

I dunno, still doesn't sound sinister enough. I should feel like I'm having an action packed, climactic firey battle to the death with an armored cockroach when I hear the song. But that's just me, I'm not sure about others...

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the reason that you don't find the boss music as epic as you are hoping for is because was basing this song off the old Sonic boss themes, which are much different than the recent Sonic games:

Sonic 1 Final Boss

Sonic 2 Boss (just skip to one of the boss sections)
