no-one is saving their addon games?

Please wise and wonderful people reading this, I need help!

When I try selecting an addon and starting a game, I get a message that says " Warning, this game is modded and progress wont be saved" (or something along those lines) but Ive been able to play with addons before all my save files disappeared. I had to download a save file online so I dont have to start from the scratch with emblems ( please dont judge me for that lol) Why am I getting this warning now?

What version are you using, for starters? If you have a version below 2.2.12, then it should've been mentioned that addons in any version below that will not save.
