A question of faith
Gah! It is evolution that causes disbelief in evolution. Paradox impending.
It's an interesting idea though. I'm more inclined to believe that it is memetic evolution rather than genetic evolution (ie the 'idea' of religion was a successful means of creating harmonious and cohesive groups, leading those groups to be more suited to survival than non-religious tribes, and the idea gets passed on through successive generations through culture rather than genes.) I do accept that there probably is a genetic component that pre-disposes us to spiritual belief.
If there is a God gene or suite of genes, it feels a little bit like it could lead to Babelfish-like proof that God doesn't exist. Either that, or this whole free will business is a crock.
