New 2D Sonic game "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" announced for 2010

I have problems with this.

1. Why are you using Classic Sonic in the loading screen if he's not even in the game? Stop mocking me, Sega! ;_;

2. The physics are too floaty. Sonic jumps too high and stays in the air too long, and the slopes physics remind me of Rush. This is not a good thing.

3. Speed boosters. In general. Sonic 2 had speed boosters, yes, but they were incredibly rare, and only in like one zone. If they're putting them in the island level, this means that they're probably going to be REALLY common, and this'll probably be a hold-right speedfest like Rush and Advance 2/3 were. This is very, very bad.

4. The game looks pretty glitchy. The guy stays away from the speed boosters, so those must cause problems, plus Sonic has problems getting into a loop. Since this is a beta/alpha, I'll look past this, but they better fix it in a way that doesn't involve scripted sequences.

1. As of right now, who really cares?

2. The only time Sonic seemed to jump high in that video was when he went off of that slope, which you should expect to happen.

3. Without the use of that boost, the player was struggling just to get up that hill to the spring, I don't see a problem.

4. Pointing out bugs during the alpha stage doesn't seem very effective to me.

Apparently you haven't notice from the title of the video that this is a leaked video of an alpha version of the game. Which clearly means that the game will most likely be different from what it looks like now.

Green eyes and crappy physics. Yes, this game will suck.

In all seriousness, I certainly hope this game plays better for the final release.

Hence the highlighted portion of my previous post, my good sir.

WOW.... I... I have hope in this game again.

I mean... yeah, the aesthetics need some work, but DAMN! You're not holding right to win! They ACTUALLY LISTENED!

Man.... Even if it's a rehash now, I don't care. This just made me regret my nitpicking.

Hey, that screenshot may or may not actually be fake, upon further inspection. The stats in the HUD are very similar, but not exact, and some of the level details (an extra flower behind Sonic, the dust left behind) are different. Photoshop or not, this may be official, considering the odds that this might be an "official" leak.

EDIT: Also, does anyone else absolutely love the music? The menu one is bad ass.

Absolutely agreed.

Dang... I feel terrible now. I was hating this up until the leaked footage.

Also, the Lost Labyrinth zone looks bad ass. Indiana Jones, anyone? Also, note the Starfish enemies from Metropolis in Mad Gear Zone.

Asterons indeed.

1. Why not? It is a game about going back to the Genesis days.
(And, knowing Sega, they just probably copied it from another game/movie. *Mario Strikers Cough cough*)

2. Sonic jumps too high? lol I compared Sonic's height to a tree in the video and Sonic 1's height jump and they are about the same. (yes Sonic 4 is jump IS higher but not much.) and I agree Sonic stays in the air too long.

3. I only saw ONE speed booster in the video to help Sonic up the hill. Hold right? Did you miss the wall at :50 ? Plus most of the first levels of Sonic is HOLD right.

4. As you said it is a "alpha"

5. Has anyone said anything about the Flicky that came out of the Motobug, or Sonic's full running model yet?

Apart from Cortex, Crash (sort of)Making Tiny look like a proper tiger & N Gin's Models, what on earth happened to the designs.... I think it's safer to say that the old design were much better.

I was comparing the complaining fans, not the designs themselves.( i personally don't care and can tolerate the new designs.)

Something about Sonic's jump doesn't seem quite right. I don't know, I think the speed of his gravity looks about right, but his rolling animation is just too slow. If that's the case, then at least it's an aesthetic issue and not a physics issue.

Don't know what to think about the speed boosts yet. The one shown doesn't seem intrusive, and I'm hoping they're used infrequently enough to not control the gameplay.

@Bigboi: I saw the classic Sonic image thing on the SEGA boards, and apparently the classic model is an edit.

I wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of us being given the option of Classic Sonic, though; just seems like a logical choice to me.

This all looks fairly alpha to me still, so I'll leave skepticism until we get close to a release date or something.

3. Speed boosters. In general. Sonic 2 had speed boosters, yes, but they were incredibly rare, and only in like one zone.
THEN RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN. If rare boosters in one zone is insignificant... then how exactly does a single booster in a single act of a leaked alpha version of the game amount to anything? Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch.

It's not so much that the rolling animation is slow in itself, so much as it doesn't speed up according to momentum. I'd imagine it'd look perfectly fine if it were, say, just a standstill jump. It's possible they're planning to add that code later when they actually plan to make another proper trailer.

That completes the picture for me. Again, this looks like it's still in its alpha stages, so I'm not surprised if it gets fixed by the time an official gameplay preview appears.

The zones I saw on the menu, for those who couldn't read it:
Splash Hill Zone
Casino Street Zone
Lost Labyrinth Zone
Mad Gear Zone

http://tweaker.sonicretro.org/22717...Sonic4Alpha.mov - Here's the video from another link, hopefully this won't get taken down so easily.

I know I sound like a complete and utter n00b, but seriously, how the heck to you play a *.mov file? Also yeah, I was wondering what everyone was talking about until this posted dawned on me that "There ARE laws you know".
Personally, I find the classic games terrible. My reasons are going to get me flamed so I'll leave it there. This'll hopefully change my mind.

oh and maybe they can speed up a fast he spins when running >.>

Just looked at it, and I'll have to reiterate what others have said, it does look a tad unfinished ( slow spinning in air while moving? lolwut?) as well as other things, also the loops collision I presume was a lack of code, so I'll just wait for sega to reveal a much more finished product in the future...
