Here is the old, pixelated version of Mario! Now, before you slit my throat, here is what makes it special:

I have made sprites of my own...

...this isn't a recolor...

...I didn't copy and paste these from a sprite sheet, I did infact draw them...

...and this does have more than just 1 or 2 sprites.

Well, Luigi can be different from Mario. Look at Luigi in SMS' mariopack.

Luigi can kind of have a floaty jump, like Knuckles, but he doesn't stick to walls and you have to propel him forward. He can jump higher. He can have green fireballs.

I think I've made my point.

Well personally, I'd rather have a somewhat larger mario than a tiny one. It doesn't look bad though. However I prefer all the characters in SRB2 to be a similar size, it makes it more consistent. (or look the same size if they really are the same size)
