It looks strange, but does somebody have Word 2.0? Yes, is REALLY and old version, but I have a document in that format and crashes at page 34... Page 37 too... And I don't want continue... Word asks for an old file, obviously deleted at this moment (I have Word XP, 2002 for some guys)... Damn, it looks to be full of info about programming Mega Drive (and looks to be one of the documents that Sega distributed to programmers as part of development kits, yes, just THIS file crashes...)

I'll send it to everybody that want test it (and convert to a newer format, please!!!). Is possible that it can be read in other system (an older Word?)

Help!!!

Word 2.0? Really, I have XP and for that reason crashes, because it's too new for the document. And I need the files of Word 2.0.

I have word xp I think, either that or 2003, but I'm pretty sure its xp, I'm too lazy to check though.

This is for give an idea to you: when I had a computer with Win 3.11, it had Word 6.0. So...

I have heard that Microsoft , years ago, made available for download an old version of Word for DOS
Maybe you need this?

Really, I need the program files, so yes... But now the thing is found that version... And remember: it must be 2.0...

Try to use Word 6.0...
The problem of opening Word 2.0 files is known also to be present with Word 95 and Word 97
(I presume that Microsoft broked the compatibility with Word 2.0 for pushing updates to new versions. Ah, Bill Gates... always the same story with you! )
EDIT: Eric Auer I don't like this joke on MS Word available for download. I really don't like it

This site suggests that Wordpad 1.0 (from Win95) can handle Word 2 files. I'll just go and install Win95 in VMWare and report back, after I try it with a Word 2 file I found.

I think that all the versions different to 2.0 haven't the files. Really, Word is supposed to not ask for that old files and open the equivalent in the actual version, and really, it's the first time that I have this kind of error IN ANY PROGRAM, so, it's really strange... I can expect a lot of things from Microsoft (I'm talking about bugs), but this became COMPLETELY strange, really... I thought about ask them from the file, but I can't find any file!!! And each support ask cost $99...

Oh, nice detail: Word crashes with the old Win3.1 dialog box style, which means about a crash EXTREMELY strange... And after that guess what: the computer crashes including VRAM cleaning (yeah, black screen)... And that NEVER happened to me...

And if the file has a virus, it's supposed to be detected, because then it must be a REALLY OLD virus...

Not much luck on the Wordpad front: it opens it as plaintext. However, since Word 2 files are mostly plaintext anyway, you can probably get at the information you need. If you like, you could send me the file, and I'll see whether it crashes just as spectacularly here, too.

That's because the first Word documents were plain text.

But test with WordPad? I never thought it... Good idea. *going to test*

EDIT: "Can't load Word for Windows 2.0 files"

EDIT 2: changing this format to a newest one worked and functions with WordPad. Now check if still crashes (if not, I'll made a BAT for open it, I know where WordPad is located, at least in my computer).

It only doesn't crash in TXT format. I tried RTF, too, but fails. Apparently a picture at page 34 (where the document crashes) is scrambled, and that blocks everything to me.

Do you want to see if you can open the file, remove that picture and resend it to me?

I opened it in OpenOffice without any issues, and e-mailled it to you in PDF format, which, with any luck, will sort things out. I'd still be interested in finding out exactly what the problem was, though.

Compatibility issues? I have Office XP but I run Win98, so something has escaped from Microsoft's hands... They were thinking in WinXP users, not Win98 users.

However, thanks. *going to test*

EDIT: worked!!! Thank you!!! ;)
